Good stuff Doc. I'm 79 and recently badly scraped the side of my calf. Wound got mildly infected and had major swelling.
Went to my wound specialist and he prescribed 10 days of antibiotics. He then scraped it once per week and also prescribed
Santyl ointment which is like Vaseline only much stronger. Now healing really well. You need a script for this and it's expensive but worth it.
Legs are the slowest to heal and you need to keep wrapped with ace bandage for support, clean and change ointment daily,
Went to my dermatologist for a second opinion and he said to stay with wound docs program.
Good luck.

Thank you!You covered everything, so well. After two bites would not heal, I went to the urgent care facility, worried that they were not healing at all. The doctor told me that I was delaying healing on my shin, by damaging new skin cells every day, by using alcohol alternating with vinegar to clean the itchy bites. Now that I have learned that I have an extreme histamine reaction to all insect bites, I will stay with Aquaphor, and allow my skin to heal naturally. I do like the small band aids that cover the cuts and allow them to stay moist.

Other hypochlorous acid spray products are by Skinsmart and Tower 28. It has other uses as well.

A friend’s father is a jeweler and they pierced ears at the shop with a piercing gun. He was always having to remind customers to clean their new earrings and wipe the piercing area (after soap and water) with alcohol and not to clean their ears with hydrogen peroxide as the piercing would not heal.

Good advice, Dr.Sugai. I’ll keep the rubbing alcohol and hydrogen peroxide for other uses. 🤙🏽

No Neosporin or adhesive for me. Purchased a HOCL machine, so any cut gets soap & water, hypochlorous acid spray and vasoline. Mahalo.

Thanks doctor! 😊 I've been struggling with looking for a doctor's opinion on how to take care of wounds since I wanted to start my first aid kit and I REFUSED to buy hydrogen peroxide because I knew it was bad for wound healing but I wasn't sure what was the best option to have in my kit 😊😊😊
Thanks again!!!! Super useful video

I'm happy I watched your video, I'm at the 48 hour mark of having 10 stiches on a 3 inch wide by 1/2 inch deep cut on my left shin area. I've been hyper focused on preventing any germs or bacteria since the doctor that stitched me up warned me. What they didn't do was give me advice on cleaning the wound, just that I needed to apply Bacitracin every 12 hours for 14 days, when I get the stiches removed. I assumed, wrongly apparently, that it made sense to spritz the cut with hydrogen peroxide after dabbing the older remnant Bacitracin off. I would pat it dry after leaving it on a few seconds, let it air dry for a few minutes, then reapply fresh Bacitracin. So luckily I watched your video before too many days transpired, and I will no longer be using hydrogen peroxide on it.

15 years ago after a minor biopsy I developed a small rash. To my surprise my dermatologist said I was having an allergic reaction to Neosporin and latex bandages.

My mom had a huge bruise randomly during the summer and she used hydrogen peroxide several times and I believe her doctor gave her a cream that worked very well in healing her
