Eve Spectrum 4K HDMI 2.1 Gaming Monitor: Worth the Wait?

preview_player
Показать описание
Eve Spectrum bills itself as the first crowd-developed monitor, and it was in the works for quite some time ahead of launch. The Eve Spectrum is now shipping out and available, so we thought we'd test it out to see if it's worth picking up. Is this monitor a great option for next generation consoles with HDMI 2.1 like the Xbox Series X and PS5?

What I love about this monitor is that it has clearly been built by adults for adults - no garish, silly rgb to bling up a teenage kid's bedroom. Just a sytlish, quality piece of hardware that says "Yeah"

I absolutely love mine! It's built very well. Love that it can be updated to fix issues and the colors on this monitor is amazing

for me, the eve spectrum being able to daisy chain monitors through DP and the USB cables it what sells it for me. The high refresh rate and color accuracy and HDR are just ice cream on top.

The delays are what stop me putting an order in. If I order today how long would I be looking to wait. Who knows. That’s the problem

Are there any HDMI 2.1 monitors in 2k or is this a 4k+ thing? and is there any cheaper alternatives with 120hz+? I'm having difficulty researching this stuff.

I'm on the market for an ultrawide monitor with a USB C port and up to 144Hz.

You'd be surprised at how little the options are.

How is the color accuracy on this monitor? Did you test the calibration?

When connected to an M1 MacBook Air or Pro with usb-c = does it offer 144Hz?

I found that I still had to use a TB cable to do video out from an M1 Pro MBP. Used one of the USB-C cables I had lying around from phones over the years and it would charge the laptop but wouldn't provide video or data so things like my external mouse and keyboard wouldn't work. Ordered a $30 TB4 cable via Amazon and it now charges, provides video, and lets me use the USB devices plugged into the display with the MBP.

Really nice design – for a gaming focused monitor especially. :)

I'm curious if it's possible to turn off that white LED in the front when the the monitor is on? 🤔

Hey man, I've had the monitor for about a month now and I've had a big problem. Everytime i alt tab out of a fullscreen game, the screen goes black for about 3-5 seconds. Im running 4k144hz obviously with a proper dp 1.4 cable. Tried both a 2070 super and a 3070 and both had the problem so its not a faulty gpu. All ive found so far is that it could have something to do with the bandwidth of 4k144hz being close to the dp 1.4 limit. Going to 4k60hz fixes it. Also, borderless fullscreen fixes it but i really prefer proper fullscreen. Have you experienced this problem as well?

I heard you have to update the firmware with windows before you can use 144hz on Mac. Is this true?

Nice review!😄 Thanks for giving a brief comparison between the Spectrum and the M28U. They are the two monitors i'm looking at.

There's a reason why most of the biggest tech channels are avoiding this product. I, along with so many people, have paid for our orders ranging from weeks to month with no feedback. There are people in their discussion forum that have been waiting since last year

How much did eve pay you for this review?

I got the Xbox Series X day one and had the cut out issues you've described in this video with the Eve monitor. I'm using a TCL 43S421LFAA, so no 120Hz here but I eventually figured out that settings on the Xbox made the problem virtually go away. I saw it most on streaming apps and the dash board, but even in some games, but less often. The setting I think that fixed things was in General TV & display options, Advanced Video Modes, and turning on Allow YCC 4:2:2. My other settings in advanced that are checked are Allow 24Hz, Allow 4K, Allow HDR10, Auto HDR. The Display setting is to 4K UHD and setting it lower improved the dash board, but not much else so I'm glad in its currently "fixed" state its 4K UHD. In General Video fidelity & overscan, I have auto overrides, 32 bits per pixel (12-bit) color depth and standard colorspace. I was going crazy because my Apple TV 4K was working fine at similar settings, I was using the provided cable direct to the TV HDMI port (tried all 3 ports), making sure it was firmly inserted at both ends. I even tried the Belkin cable I bought for the Apple TV 4K from Apple because it was having bluetooth reception problems until I bought that cable. Hope the Allow YCC 4:2:2 setting improves your video cut outs like it did for me.

Why do none of these new hdmi 2.1 monitors have an optical port? Astro a50s need an optical port for surround but there's no adapters out there that carry 4k 120hz

I heard a lot of build quality complaints about the Eve Spectrum. A shop in my locality has the 4K version (priced at US$1085). It’s the only hdmi 2.1 monitor available to me right now. I’m really hesitant to buy and wondering if I should just wait for a more reliable brand to be available.
