What Are the Signs of ADHD in Women?

It's important to note that everyone's experience with ADHD is unique, and not all women with ADHD will exhibit the same signs or symptoms. Additionally, these symptoms can also be attributed to other conditions, so it is essential to consult with a healthcare professional or mental health provider for a comprehensive evaluation and accurate diagnosis.

I am just starting to dive into what ADHD looks like for women. After giving birth to my daughter my symptoms multiplied and my partner (who’s also ADHD) brought it to my attention. I’ve never been diagnosed, but just seeing videos like this brings me so much peace. For so many years I have felt like I wasn’t normal and something was wrong with me. I have been diagnosed and treated for anxiety, depression, and bipolar. Treatments just never seemed to work which made me feel more isolated. It’s a relief to hear that my ‘issues’ finally have a name. Thank you so much for sharing this information! Almost everything you described in this video is relatable for me.

one of the thing that has hurt me most having adhd is my memory. I just never was able to fix that and memorize information at school and my grades suffered.

I remember all my appointments with people, events and places I just get so overwhelmed to show up and act like I’m normal. I’m uncomfortable 88% if not 90% of the time.

You can be my friend. I am also crap at nurturing friendships. That is why I find it important to have fellow adhders as friends who are a bit more tolerant.

Omg, all of this! Not diagnosed until age 55 when everything you discussed just became unbearable and unmanageable. The guilt around what we perceive as our shortcomings, failures, and flaws in not being like our siblings or others is insane and leads to a lifetime of depression if the adhd is undiagnosed or misdiagnosed.

All that you said. It is so so me. It made me cry. You hit the nail on the the head. It seems that no one understands. People just think I Am lazy and don't care about anything. I am just the opposite. I find myself ALWAYS trying to be organized and my head is always racing. I think I need to be tested.

13:20 I'M YELLING AT THE SCREEN Thank you!!! I live with my mom who has OCD and it drives me up a damn wall. She's all about aesthetics, can't have cabinet doors open, things spread out on the island, or she goes crazy. I tell her I favor functionality/practicality over aesthetics. I NEED everything out because once it's put away it's like I never owned the item lmao. She just does not get it at all (even though she has the same object constancy issue. I was adopted though so not a case of heritability w/ her). My hobby is baking and she will hover over me cleaning dishes I've just used or taking utensils away that I still need. Sometimes I get so overwhelmed I just burst into tears and run to my room and abandon the project. :( It's like I have no autonomy.

I know what you mean regarding things looking disorganized... You know where everything is though so it's an organized mess to you. I haven't been dxed with this (I've gotten everything else lol -- BPD, CPTSD, anxiety, depression, bipolar 2) but I'm currently filling in an assessment to take to my PCP. Needing to put things away for visitors is so annoying to me. My parents tell me to put my stuff away when someone is coming over and I'm just like... why? If they judge you based on things being left out, why would you want someone like that coming over? My home is my safe place! Lol, they don't understand me and I don't understand the fake relationships they upkeep. Thanks for sharing.

Lately the forgetfulness has been worse for me and it’s driving me insane. I’ve had issues with keeping friendships and relationships over the years feeling like it’s hard to be a good friend, sister, etc. I’ve always loved school and learning but always wonder why i get distracted easily. Im definitely disorganized and ill clean but get frustrated when its a mess again in a couple of days

I relate to the majority of the symptoms you said and it fits me as well. My family didnt believe in these kinds of disorders when I was a kid so it went under the radar. Im just now getting screened and treated for ADHD

This resonated with me so much! I'm currently trying to get extra exam arrangements for ADHD (although I haven't been diagnosed yet) and it's so exhausting to be constantly questioned as to whether I actually have it since I do well in school. But seeing other people sharing the same experiences that I have always reassures me, even down to having to bring earplugs in for exams.

Thank you for this video, Professor B. I am a new subscriber but this content is GOLD. I was teased that I have ADHD but I was undiagnosed. 😁

An “organized mess” describes my life and my desk to the T 😅 I buy organization items but they end up sitting on a table or counter somewhere unopened for weeks 😢

Anyone else start to feel dizzy and disoriented when you are trying so hard to engage and focus on someone having a conversation with you? I want to have a conversation but my body makes me feel sick and so uncomfortable.
