In this video Dr. Robbins explains why so many girls are not diagnosed with ADHD in childhood. Many women who were not diagnosed at a younger age may succeed at a hidden cost, but around the time of menopause ADHD symptoms become exacerbated and cause them to seek medical attention.

Diagnosed at age 51 (autism strongly suspected by the diagnosing therapist and me). My brother was medicated and I was told to focus in school. It's always been a problem but as a girl who didn't disrupt class nobody cared.

Unfortunately, now I deal with uninformed trolls who say it's just a trend. Yeah, women are finally getting recognized. It's not a trend, it just about time we get some understanding and help!

Thanks for this video, it applies to men as well. I just got diagnosed as ADHD and I'm 67 and my son got diagnosed back in 6th grade. Luckily society is open to thinking about ADHD as a possible cause for people not reaching their potential but not knowing why that is despite making the effort.

Diagnosed at 50. It is so very hard to get that diagnosis - it is NOT a trend. I have been enraged over the years of struggle both I and my daughters endured. What was lost. Treatment dramatically changed our lives. It’s important to find practitioners who specialize in treating and diagnosing adults. I actually had to fly from Europe to a clinic in the US to get accurately assessed. After that it was easier to get my daughters treated because of the genetic component. It transformed their lives.

Diagnosed at age 58. This video/interview is spot on. I had so many issues from a young age. Many bad memories of impulsive events 1st grade, 3rd grade, high school and adulthood. I’m Learning about it, management-without meds, etc. what an eye opener, after all these years.

This is so fascinating—thank you! A comment—the background music is a bit distracting for me.

Great information! Nice to know that I'm not simply going crazy.
Also, please note that background music is actually very distracting to ADHD brains. For me, it gets louder and louder as I try to "ignore it".

😮 This pretty much summarizes my life 😢 20+ years on Effexor and now finally TELLING my doctor I’m tapering off. But my suspicion of adhd is still not taken seriously because I tried stimulants and they weren’t a “miracle cure”. Now seeing a psychologist and hoping for some guidance but not holding my breath so I am TRYING to commit to working through a couple of books to help myself, which would be great except that it’s a CATCH-22 that I can fricking stick to it on my own. 🥺 So so desperately frustrated that I haven’t been able to get help to make the most out of my life, largely because I’m good at masking and too ashamed to let anyone see the shambles that my house and finances really are. 🥺

I was a daydreamer. Got a lot of flack for it. By the time I was diagnosed with ADHD I was in my sixties. I figured I was managing it, since I'd been working on it all my life. Now I'm too old for meds. I have major issues with impulsive behavior. Nowadays, I just tell people I have ADHD and they can like it or lump it.

Excellent video and absolutely agree because it's a misconception that girls don't have ADHD. I myself wasn't diagnosed ever but definitely I had ADHD because of unfortunate events in my life. 😢
