I screw it in then back it out then screw it back in again. Works every time

Yeah… right message, wrong information. Wood screws can be either fully threaded or not, don’t use “drywall” screws for wood work because the thread depth, profile, and shear strength, etc isn’t the same as a screw designed for wood work.

Run a clearance hole in the top plank, and then they work perfectly, even draw the countersink down level.

Its gets simpler than that....drywall screws have very little tensile strenght, they break easily once you drive them hard into wood, you could call it experience I suppose.

Yup😉. I clamp and often predrilled through the first board. With that said, if you use them on hard woods such a s oak, they often snap when driving in, even when pre-drilling.

Been using drywall screws for decades. Never had a failure.

When I want one piece to draw up to the other piece. I drill the top piece with an bit that's larger than the threads of the screw.

Thank you sir. I’m 49 and I always wondered why the tread on wood screws doesn’t cover the whole screw.

Few years ago i demoed tongue and groove exterior wood siding which was attached with drywall screws. Siding was made in 1990's and i was amazed that those screws barely had any rust on.

while shopping, made me wonder the it's called drywall screw instead of wood screw. I bought it anyway for my wood working project. Thanks for this information.

If I lube of my wood screws with wood glue will it bet even better? Plus if I do that I can push down the screw more and put a wood cap on it to hold the screw right?

What about my wood screws that are threaded all the way to the head because im only crewing a 1/4 inch piece on? Should i not use those?

It only draws the 2 pieces together once the threadless part of the shaft has passed the first piece of timber completely.

The man's tip is good for the novice wood worker making small interior craft items. Just make sure the dry wall screws are course threaded. I do use dry wall screws for certain applications but most of the time I use construction wood screws. Self tapping screws are a very good.

@sawinery-woodworking you can end up with the same issue even with woodw9rking screws. This issue is easily solved by drilling a clearance hole in one piece of wood.

I don't disagree with the premise. However for simple shop jigs or shop furniture, drywall screws are a great alternative.
