The close-grip bench press is one of my favorite exercises for overloading the triceps while building pressing strength.

Outside of triceps growth, I also like how the close-grip bench press can have carryover to both your bench press and overhead press.

If you're new to the close-grip bench press then I'd suggest making sure your form is on lock to get the most out of this exercise.

In this context of creating carry-over to your other lifts, the close-grip bench press can be a useful tool for improving overall lockout strength.

Plus, I find the close-grip bench press to be an awesome bench press variation to give you exposure to horizontal pressing without needing to be super dialed with your barbell bench press.

The close-grip bench press can work really well as a main compound in your workout or as an accessory, it's really the dealer's choice.
