The transition on her face from fear to fight is such a fine example of her superb acting skills.

I saw this in the theater. When she put her game face on and lit the flame thrower the audience cheered.

I love how as soon as the doors open it falls silent, aside the alarm and that iconic, ominous beeping of the tracker.

Zero dialogue and yet you get the sense of all the emotions that Ripley is going through. Superb acting.

Now THIS is how you build a hero moment. Textbook case.

This is what an actual movie heroine looks like.

I love this scene, an elevator down to 'hell' with a booming audio voice and alarm.

The best part is when she takes a deep breath before turning the flamethrower on, and you see the fear in her face change to determination. It’s a nice, human moment from Ripley that shows that she’s scared, but she’s gotta do this for Newt’s sake.

As much as I love this scene (and god almighty do I love this scene), I think something has to be said about Ripley's character development throughout the first two movies. She starts off as just a regular person. She's pretty much nothing more glamorous than a space trucker at the start of the first film and throughout it, learns to survive the horror of just what a xenomoph is capable of, before finally nuking the ship and blasting it into space because she's done trying to hide from it. Then in the next film we see her go from the survivor to a xenomorph-slaying badass, not because it's in her nature, or that she's some kind of superhuman, but because she just fucking hates xenomorphs. I love the simplicity in that; no big, lofty goals, no philosophical standpoint, just "I am beyond done with this shit. Let's end this."

The editing, the score, the timing, sound design, Sigourney Weaver's acting all working together perfectly. Probably the greatest sequence ever filmed!!

Weaver running the emotional gauntlet through her eyes and body language was worth her Oscar nomination alone.

Far more believable woman hero than the ones in movies today. You can see fear in her eyes which is how it would be in real anybody.

just realize what's happening here; ripley is going alone down to something worst than hell (to a nest full of xenomorphs ), she needs to save Newt and put themselves in a safe distance from the bombs, oh yeah i forgot she just got 14 minutes left

James Cameron needs to direct an ACTUAL SEQUEL to this masterpiece...

Yep, this is iconic, forever. Forget the other alien sequels/prequals/whateverquels, they keep doing "Alien" over and over again. Aliens remains unique and awesome.

A 90 second scene of Ripley just prepping for the movie's climax; these movies are so damn cool.
