The petrol obessed people in this comment section seems to not know that high performance Diesel engines do exist which not only have low end performance but also top end performance. But can't blame them, most of these folks only ever driven the 1.3 / 1.5 diesel engines and weak naturally aspirated petrol engines all under 2L engine capacity . But pollution wise, definitely i cannot disagree that diesels are terrible and maintenance is not for the ones with light wallet but damn worth it.
Performance wise these engines are famous around the world
1. Firstly the 1.9 TDI from VW seen in cars like Jetta, Passat, Audi A4 /A6 which can reach 200hp and 400nm torque with a simple stage 1 tune.
2. The fantastic 6 cylinder 3L diesel engine in the BMW 530D ( stage one tune can push 300+ hp and 700nm torque)
3. Finally the super rare 5.0L V10 TDI seen in the Touareg (stock is 309 hp and 750nm torque)
These are figures that you just don't see normally on petrol cars in India. Even so called performance 1.5L virtus, Verna, Slavia would get destroyed by a Jetta with 1.9TDI engine.

Got the 2.5 Innova from 2012. Clocked 4 lacs. Still has the same feel and feedback. A diesel is a diesel is a diesel.

Negative is you have to run car frequently… can’t park car for a month without using it

Negatives are:-
More engine sound
High maintenance
10 years life
Need more continuous running

Diesel gives you more power, but you can't keep a diesel car on idle for a long time, it has to be running frequently. If your daily running is around 30 km to 40 km it makes sense to buy a diesel car. It's not advisable to keep a diesel car not used for a long time.

Only more mileage thing is correct, others can also be found with petrol cars

Fault : DPF Filter 😂
Don't but BS6 diesels unless you constantly travel on open roads/high ways.

Nowadays-
-Dpf big problem
-Need to maintain and burn carbon residue which is a hassle
- petrol and diesel are almost same price
- 10 year life
-Parts are expensive
- high maintenance
- sounds horrible later years
- mileage is a bit better
- Need regular running

Petrol
- average is below diesel
- will run for 15 years
- low maintenance
- higher reliable or less chance of malfunctions
- parts are cheaper
- no def bs, just sit and go
- During winters, or snow petrol cars will start at ignition way better than diesel
- petrol is a bit expensive than diesel
- Will work perfectly fine even after sitting for 6 months

The top end of petrol cars never beatable, this is the reason race cars are made of petrol or gasoline engines, no doubt diesel engines might have good fuel efficiency but petrols are less maintainance, can be driven in any terrain without worry about DEF or Anti freeze or zero degree diesel, also it depends on tuning petrols have nowdays more power example dodge demon 170srt, 1000bhp, 1500nm torque, 6.2 litre V8 supercharged

1. Higher Initial Cost
• Diesel cars typically cost more than their petrol counterparts due to more complex engine components and emission control systems.

2. Expensive Maintenance & Repairs
• Diesel engines require costlier servicing.
• Repairs like injector replacement, turbo issues, or DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) cleaning are more expensive.

3. Pollution and Emissions
• Despite better fuel efficiency, diesel engines emit more NOx (nitrogen oxides) and particulate matter, which are harmful to health and the environment.

4. Stricter Regulations & Bans
• Many cities (especially in Europe and India) are banning or restricting diesel vehicles due to pollution.
• Lower resale value expected in the long term due to policy shifts toward cleaner vehicles.

5. Cold Weather Performance
• Diesel engines can struggle in cold climates—they take longer to start and warm up compared to petrol engines.

6. Noise and Vibration
• Diesel engines are noisier and produce more vibration than petrol engines, leading to a less refined driving experience.

I don't understand why people demean others car choices. Most of people buy car from hard earned money, have some empathy and please don't demean.

No, diesel engines do not inherently offer more powerful or efficient air conditioning than gasoline engines. The performance of a car's air conditioning system is determined by factors like the compressor's condition, the amount of refrigerant, the cleanliness of the air/pollen filter, and the functionality of the blower system, not the engine type.
