You missed an “us” verse… He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.

I think you are confusing the death of Christ with its application to the individual sinner. Only believers benefit from Christ’s death, but Christ died for all men and demands all men apply his death to themselves through faith. And not only demands us to believe, in the gospel Christ proclaimed to the whole world, I have died for you. Now the death of Christ is many times referred to in scripture to those that benefit from and applied it to themselves, and yes from the application point of view the atonement is limited, since we must have faith in Christ first before we can say Christ died for me. But objectively Christ died for all men, subjectively for the elect alone because they are the only ones that believe and through their faith receive the benefits of Christ offered to all men.

I agree, however many well intentioned folks will say that you “cherry pick” scripture and exclude the verses that say “all” or “world”. I know you address this in multiple videos, but for many that believe that, presenting facts results in them becoming more entrenched in their own way of thinking.

Two scriptures came to mind as you touched on this subject. Acts 20:28 makes reference to God shedding His blood for the church/ His elect only.
Also Ephesians 5:25 makes reference to Christ giving His life for the church/God's elect. Good stuff brother, thanks so much keep up the good work..

Yes, that all sounds great if you ignore a very long list of other verses and you know which ones I’m talking about. You use Gal. 2:20 where Paul said Christ died for me? Is Paul saying Christ died ONLY for me?

Atonement limited by God is heretical and does not align with bible scripture. This teaching may have incorrectly come from the fact that initially, atonement was limited by God for the Jews. Many of the scriptures put forth both those supporting atonement limited by God, come from the old testament. Then they try to apply new testament scriptures to this context. The Bible makes it plain that with the new covenant, atonement is limited by man's accepting or rejecting the offer of salvation. I am having difficulty understanding how an accomplished Pastor like John MacArthur teaches limited atonement. To support the position that humanity, and not God, limits the atonement, the Arminian/Wesleyan lists a number of Scripture verses, including the following:

• “He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world” (1 John 2:2, emphasis added)
• “The next day he saw Jesus coming to him and said, ‘Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!”” (John 1:29, emphasis added)
• “I am the living bread that came down out of heaven; if anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread also which I will give for the life of the world is My flesh” (John 6:51, emphasis added)
• “And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to Myself” (John 12:32, emphasis added)
• “For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself as a ransom for all, the testimony given at the proper time” (1 Timothy 2:5–6, emphasis added)
• “But we do see Him who was made for a little while lower than the angels, namely, Jesus, because of the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, so that by the grace of God He might taste death for everyone” (Hebrews 2:9, emphasis added)
• “But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will also be false teachers among you, who will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing swift destruction upon themselves” (2 Peter 2:1, emphasis added).

Unless one is a universalist and believes that everyone will ultimately be saved, a Christian must hold to some form of a limited atonement. The key area of disagreement is over who limits that atonement—God or man? Those wishing to hold to a God-limited atonement must answer the biblical arguments put forth by those holding to a human-limited atonement and also explain how God can be described in Scripture as being all-loving and yet not have His Son die for everyone.

In the parable, a man planned a large banquet and sent out invitations. When the banquet was ready, he sent his servant to contact each of the invited guests, telling them that all was ready and the meal was about to start (verses 16-17). One after another, the guests made excuses for not coming. One had just bought a piece of land and said he had to go see it (verse 18). Another had purchased some oxen and said he was on the way to yoke them up and try them out (verse 19). Another gave the excuse that he was newly married and therefore could not come (verse 20).

But everyone who's born on earth has a chance to become one of his sheep if they chose. That's free will. Yes not all of them will because some will chose the world

I love my wife. I lay my life down for her.

Do I love anyone else?
Would I lay my life down for anyone other than my wife?

If you cherry pick through some things I say you could come away with that idea.

sorry scripture says that Jesus came for the lost, the ungodly, the unjust, everyone, all, the world, the whole world, ,
the problem is that calvinist dont seem to understand what the requirement is for the gift that Jesus left for everyone .

Yes, Christ died for “US” however, once a sinner who was once excluded accepts the shed blood of Christ that once excluded sinner is now apart of “US”… to believe in a limited atonement is to believe in a limited Christ. Your theology is very poor…Also, the once sinner, is now a SAINT saved by grace. He is no longer a sinner. In order to remain a disciple he must CONTINE in Jesus word

I wouldn’t say those verses given are even remotely a slam dunk. How about all those “names written in the Lambs book of life before the beginning of time” verses.

This is probably a dumb thought, I'm new to all this deep thought. His death was sufficient for all sin as bible is clear grace is rich; more than enough. Doesn't his death allow all that have sinned to rise to judgement after death? Then those who believe have the righteousness of God in Christ covering them while the others have eternal separation and are judged without Christs covering?

John 3:16 God died for the world? And all in the world, so did he not die for the world? (All)?

If Jesus died for everyone in general, then we would have universalism. God cannot charge sin twice, to Jesus and to the sinner in hell. He died only for the elect, nothing to debate. Scripture is CLEAR, as is logic.

You contradicted yourself and did the typical Calvinist approach: Instead of looking at all of the relevant passages on a subject; you did not do that. You only cited the ones that “seem” to say what your system of belief holds to. In doing this you used the negative inference fallacy.

Yes. Christ died for the sheep. Earlier in John it says he came to save “His people from their sins”. Every theologian I’ve read on that passage says it’s referring to Jews. “His people”. Salvation is of the Jews. To the Jew first and also to the Greek. But when we rightly divide the word of truth we don’t assert that Christ only died for Jews do we? Neither do we focus on His statement: “I’ve come only for the lost sheep of the house of israel” Why? Because rightly dividing the whole of the New Testament- we learn that the gospel had now been ordained or appointed for the gentiles also beginning early in Acts 14.

NOWHERE does the Bible say Christ ONLY died for the elect. It’s not there. That’s eisegesis. If you do a full study objectively of all the relevant passages - and rightly divide the word of truth-limited atonement does not emerge. 1 John 2:2 all by itself contradicts this doctrine. It could not be more clear by the Spirit in human language. It says the “whole world”. Not all kind of people on the world. Or the [elect] world. That’s pure eisegesis. Just like the twisting of John 3:16 by Calvinists is pure eisegesis. The Bible clearly and plainly says Christ’s side for all. For the whole world- knowing that not all would believe. And as even many Calvinists have believed historically the atonement is “Sufficient for all efficient for some.” Because only some Believe. Christ is the Savior of All men. Especially of them that believe. He tasted death for every man. Some denied the Lord Who “bought them.”

If that contradicts your theology then so much the worse for your theology. That’s what it says:

He died for ALL (1 Tim. 2:6).
He died for ALL MEN (Rom. 5:18; 1 Tim. 4:10).
He died for US ALL, for ALL OF US (Isa. 53:6).
He died for the UNGODLY (Rom. 5:6).
He died for CHRIST-DENIERS (2 Peter 2:1).
He died for SINNERS (Rom. 5:8).
He died for EVERY MAN (Heb. 2:9).
He died for MANY (Matthew 20:28).
He died for the WORLD (John 6:33, 51; John 1:29 and John 3:16).
He died for the WHOLE WORLD (1 John 2:2).
He died for the WHOLE NATION of Israel (John 11:50-51).
He died for the CHURCH (Eph. 5:25).
He died for His SHEEP (John 10:11).
He died for ME (Gal. 2:20).
