As the battery discharges with use, its voltage drops. Eventually it's low enough that the onboard preamp in active instruments isn't internally biased properly and it starts to cause audible distortion. When it gets really low it can sound kinda like a 'buzzy' distortion effect. Replace battery and you's all good!

Thank you for this video. 🙏🏼 I was having the same issue with my bass. I thought it was my brand new amp with the problem so I actually took the amp back to the guitar center and swapped it to another one but it still had the same issue…I almost decided to return the $600 amp…I just changed the battery and it solved all of the problem instantly. I’m a total beginner player but if I had found this video, it would have saved me from all the hassles…😂😆😄

I have a Sterling Sub Ray 5 and is seems to be getting crappy sound after about 6 hours of playing time, when I leave it until the next session, usually overnight, it will play good for about 30 minutes and starts to distort again. Actually, I thought they'd last a bit longer, but I guess I'll have to stock up. Anybody try rechargeables?

My Fender Rumble 40 started sounding not too great on the low E and then was cutting out before losing all low end. I thought I blew my speaker. I wasn't thinking about the battery in my Schecter Stiletto Extreme 4. I changed the battery out and was back in business. 🤘

I want to get a HH pickup bass with an active passive switch, will it work on passive if the battery dies? Or do the pickups need power regardless of active or passive

I have this exact same 5 string bass and i stop making any sound once i connected to the amp so now I guess it's a battery issue then .... but I am unable to unscrew the battery case ....one of the screw just keeps turning without coming out .... any ideas what to do?

Hello. As I see, it’s an Ibanez GSR200. How often does it need changing the battery? Thank you.

Riffs would have been an enhanced indicator of the tone.
