Went to my local gamestop probably around 13 years ago to buy a new game that released recently. Emphasis on "new" as I was willing to shuck out the extra money for a disc that wasn't scratched to shit. Gamestop gives me a box that's wrapped up nice with the game inside. The wrapping made it seem brand new. I opened it right at the front counter, right in front of the clerk when it happened. Disc was all scratched up.

Me: "this disc is scratched up, man"

Clerk: "oh no!" (Half sarcastic)

Me: "...OK well, I paid for a new game and clearly didn't get that"

Clerk: "that's new and never been opened before"

Me: "ok, well maybe the factory scratched it up and it got past quality control or something. But clearly, this is a defective product"

Clerk: *stares*

Me: "...could I get a game thats not defective?"

Clerk: "you want to buy another one?"

Me: "No. I want this one replaced."

Clerk: "I can't trade that for a new game. I can give you store credit"

Me: "store credit? How about I just destroy your fucking store?" (I was a constantly pissed off punk teenager)

Manager comes out, give me a refund, tells me to leave and never come back

I'd take physical of digital any day. My biggest problem is, why should I go to gamestop when the alternatives are better? Maybe I'd think different if I only had a gamestop nearby but from where I'm at, it takes the same amount of effort to go to better game stores as it does to go to gamestop

Physical game copies are king screw digital download games just because somthing is more convenient doesn't make it better digital download games are ruining the Industry

I still go. Actually prices be cheaper than digital sometimes. Rebought division 2 for Xbox this time. Was on sale for 9.99. Original price was 39.99 for digital. Got it at game stop for 4.99.

I think the preservation of physical media is a really good thing in this time, but the prices are actually horrendous. This is why people that pirate and store the copies of their own are even more preserving.

As a kid, I went to gamestop and bought a brand new factory sealed halo odyssey for $70, got home, opened the box and it was empty, we drove back to the store, argued and they told us to call Microsoft, we called Microsoft and they argued with us saying it was our fault that we got a empty box, no refund

For Nintendo I PREFER the physical copy! It saves money: multiple people in our family love the one-player Zelda games. But instead of buying it digital for EACH Switch it makes more sense to take turns with the physical copy.

(Imagine spending $50+ for the SAME game - especially a single-player one - instead of sharing with family. Ekk).
