Former cabinet minister Sir Jacob Rees-Mogg has become the latest in a string of senior Tories to lose their seat.

Sir Jacob lost his seat of Somerset North East & Hanham to Labour's Dan Norris by more than 5,000 votes.

His intonation oozes with the kind of smug superiority that seems more suited to delivering lectures on the proper etiquette of tea sipping rather than engaging in modern political discourse. It's the vocal equivalent of a monocle and top hat, utterly detached from the common rabble. Thank God he’s gone!

I've always been a Tory voter but there's nothing that makes me happier than to see this guy go. Some of the other Tories I feel a little sorry for but not those that partied and not this guy.
