Giants Past and Present: The Giants-Dodgers Rivalry

In "Giants Past and Present," from MVP Books, author Dan Fost tells of the long and bitter rivalry between the Giants and the Dodgers - a competition that started in the 19th century, when Brooklyn and New York were separate cities, and continued when the two teams moved to San Francisco and Los Angeles in 1958. Dodgers beat us this time but with tons of luck on their side.

We were losing 10-2 and came back to make it 10-8. It was a flook that the Dodgers would even score 7 runs by the 2nd inning.

Game 2 the Giants won 9-0. That really says it all.

Game 3 Tranny Ramirez hits a two run bomber in the bottom of the 8th and the Dodgers won the game.

Tough series, but still fun. We should have swept the Dodgers cause we outplayed them But they outlasted us. Had a great time watching this weekend.

when i see this rivalry from total 3rd person and i put my own fanmanship away for a moment, i can't help but notice how mean some of these dodger fans are. gosh. of course there are some mean sf fans, but jeez, a giants fan was just put in a coma by a dodger fan. that's putting shame to your OWN team's name. the giants did not "get lucky", you ignorant jerks. they had a crazzzy good team and everything came together so well. watching them was magic. i love this rivalry, but be fans, not haters

@giantsvsdodgersNET I was! I hated Juan Marichal for hitting John Roseboro with a BAT! As a kid my Uncle would always take me to get in a few Giants vs. Dodgers games. He said it was the best Rivalry in Baseball. I still go to them when they are in town. I love to hate the Giants! But at the same time I love talking to Giant fans here in L.A. Games. I will make a trip out to the Giants ballpark next season for sure! Looks like an amazing Stadium!

Dodgers and Giants both go back a long way! Really though, it's like the Cubs and Cardinals, two teams close their entire time, so it was setup to be a rivalry from the start, only the Cubs when owned by Wrigley didn't have any money put into the team, unlike when Busch owned the Cards, and upped their payroll.

Fast forward to July 4th 2011: Giants are 1st place in the NL West w/4 all star selections.Dodgers are in last place in the NL West, are bankrupt, just lost to the Angels on national television and just had 718 people at there most recent home game. OUCH...

I would take the Giants-Dodgers Rivalry over the Cubs-Cardinals Rivalry as the best rivalry in the NL. Because both franchises are consistent winners and contenders. Unlike the Cubs who'll have a few good seasons but then slip back into mediocrity.

Funny how this rivalry was big in the early days but every time one of you guys would make it to the world series you'd get your ass handed to you by the Yankees, so then both of you moved out of New York to try and get out of the huge shadow.
Besides, at least the Dodgers won titles when being on the west coast lol

i am a huge dodger fan and I understand the rivalry but i dont understand why we have to be so mean to each other its not like were playing in the games... and like i said huge dodger fan so is my day and hes been waiting a long time for them to win again... i can even say that as of lately the dodgers suck except for a few players... but we dont have to take it out on strangers over the internet....just root for your team and get on with your lives...
