No More Russian Tourists in Europe?

The European Union is making it difficult for Russian tourists to enter the bloc. The EU has decided to suspend a 2007 treaty facilitating the issue of visas to Russian travelers. The move represents a further punitive measure against Moscow in response to its war on Ukraine.
Some nations are calling for even tougher steps.

but honestly, i’m just thinking, if any other country than russia (usa, france, italy) invaded another, would the citizens be banned? would the companies leave? i don’t think so. i think only russians are getting such treatment. others would have gotten away with this easier, without the consequences for their personal life. if you get what i’m saying. it’s easy to judge and to support the ban of tourism when there is almost 0 chance that such situation would affect you who were lucky to have been born somewhere in the eu :)

It is a complicated issue. The reasoning the EU has, is fear that soldiers who have committed war crimes in Ukraine, may travel freely to EU. The other fear there is has nothing to do with ethics or humanitarian action; Fear of Kremlin spies. With free travel, it is very easy to have networks of spy operations, which have been ongoing within the EU, but have become even more serious due to the military invasion in Ukraine. Most Russians view themselves apolitical and therefore feel like this was a punishment for something they are not involved in. I know Russians who are not for a war in Ukraine, but feel the visa issue to be the wrong way in handling it. From the European point of view, being apolitical and not taking active side to condemn a war of aggression, is making the people complicit because that signals the Kremlin a people support to continue. Russian people on the other hand feel like their hands are tied, and choosing sides will only jail you or worse.

To be honest. Visa for russians should not been banned. Most regular people are not extremists in any countries. The system is the main problem in Russia. They are afrade people who seek for protection abroad. We have some russian refugies in Norway who have come here because they are afrade of Putin . Don’t misunderstand me, I am for Ukraine and support Ukraine, but I am also against racism, and russophobia is also racism

I know there are great tragedies, but the disgraceful behaviour of the EU re travel is outrageous. Tourism TO Russo was growing year on year. I welcome Russo tourists and I want to be able to visit beautiful Russia. 😢
