I had a surgery when I was 18. It was a deep wound and they said it would take a number of months to recover with a wound vac. I was obsessed with bodybuilding at the time. I was eating an extremely high protein diet and lifted weights all through recovery. They couldn’t believe it when I was fully healed in just a few months. They advised against my training and didn’t really emphasize the importance of protein intake.

Even just looking for nutrient dense foods, animal protein wins every time! It's crazy to me that fruits and vegetables get the "superfood" label, and they're not even close to being as nutrient dense as animal protein.

Protein is so unjustly vilified! I saw something last week in which the claim was that a high protein diet correlates with low testosterone. I called BS.

The whole low protein for longevity thing seems suspect, I am much more interested in quality of life at the end than when the end comes. So I do resistance training with a decent protein intake.

I believe the problem is that a lot of people are not actually absorbing the nutrients from their food. Animal products are nine times out of ten more bio-available for even the most average Joe.

Just like how fermented foods are easier for the body to absorb versus when they are raw. Or with tomatoes with lycopene specifically is fat soluble or how curcumin in tumeric is more bio-available with piperine.

The people are all so disconnected from the body and mind so 😅 there's a lot going on there too

I mean, we lived on Tundra for hundreds of thousands of years, ripping off chunks of Mammoth meat and devouring it, with a few vegetables. Delicious LOL

I love eating high protein but I can't lose weight. I do maintain but how do I lose eating 1g of protein per lb of goal body weight? Help! Could you do a post on this?

I wonder how much these two have invested in protein supplements

High protein intake can activate mTOR, which, in turn, can accelerate cellular processes that promote aging and age-related diseases. In contrast, a low protein diet can reduce the activity of mTOR and slow down these aging-related processes.

1. Effects of Dietary Composition on Testosterone: A study published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism in 1986 examined the effects of different dietary compositions on testosterone levels in men. It found that a high-protein, low-carbohydrate diet reduced testosterone levels compared to a high-carbohydrate diet.

2. Protein Intake and Sex Hormones in Older Men: A study published in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society in 2010 investigated the relationship between protein intake and sex hormones in older men. The study found that high protein intake was associated with lower levels of sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG), which can indirectly affect testosterone levels.

3. Protein Intake and Testosterone in Resistance-Trained Men: A study published in the International Journal of Sports Nutrition and Exercise Metabolism in 2006 examined the impact of high-protein diets on testosterone levels in resistance-trained men. The study found that high protein intake was associated with reduced testosterone levels.

I recently discovered - by giving up alcohol - I make better food choices, and I have more energy to be active. I would love to hear more about that topic when experts talk about healthy habits. It took me too long to figure out that it was my healthy wine that has been holding me back. 😊

Yep. Doing both restriction and Dr. Lyon's protein cycling has proven for me that That One Doctor😀 is wrong.

He mentioned the studies of protein restriction are not in humans but I think what confounds the issue is that the diets of the so called ‘blue zones’ are mostly, if not all, low to moderate protein diets. So people use that to support the case for restricting protein and eating a mostly plant-based diet.

All I can do at this point is eat nutrient dense Whole Foods and get a decent amount of protein in my OMAD. It’s extremely important for me to make sure I get enough good food in my one meal. So I’m definitely not skimping on my protein! 😄

lol protein has all the "experts" lost! Amino acids is what the body requires.

What does lack of protein do to the brain? I heard that because the brain is made of a lot of protein some anorexia sufferers with protein deficiencies causes their brains start to melt or eat itself or some crazy thing like that.
What does lack of protein actually do to your brain?

Low protein extending longevity is the one thing that doesn't intuitively seem right - especially given that elderly people often die from the impacts of low muscle and poor balance (i.e., falls) - so surely low protein puts you at a higher risk of falls and thus death. Gabrielle you should compile the evidence re: protein extending longevity
