RobWords is great. He has a LOT of content going into some fun and interesting historical details about words. Would definitely love to see more reactions to his videos.

RobWords is a must see channel for anyone even remotely interested in the origin of words. Also the podcast he does with Jess Zafiras

Gotta love it when the Youtube gods recommend you a good history video.

Rochester is the only place in the UK that stopped being a city. It had been a city for centuries but then became part of Medway, and the new local authority forgot to renew the city status.

I remember learning about the etymology of Nottingham when I was at college, that they dropped the S from the name because they couldn't pronounce Snottingham. And I remember the teacher saying "It's a good job the Normans didn't struggle to pronounce Scunthorpe in the same way".

Also, Robwords' video about the origin of each letter of our alphabet is brilliant too.

RobWords has a lot of fascinating content, especially if you enjoy learning about linguistics and etymology. "British Country Names Explained" stands out for me - especially the part about Wales.

I was born in West Bromwich and now live in Glasgow, however I was raised in Wednesbury and couldn't believe that you brought it up! One of the high schools in Wednesbury is called Wodensbourogh, and one of the pubs was called The Woden Hill, which is now closed. Great video as always!

I'm from the rather simply named Southend-on-Sea. We haven't been a city for very long - the Queen granted us city status in memory of our local member of parliament David Amess, who was murdered while meeting his constituents. Getting Southend city status was something of a lifelong political goal of his, often to the amusement and rolled eyes of his peers, so it seemed fitting I imagine to grant his wish after his tragic passing.

Big fan of your content.

To answer your question about if anyone’s been to these places. I went to University in Birmingham for 4 years, live 20 minutes away from Leighton Buzzard and was born in St Albans hospital! lol

I thought that the story of Nottingham was an urban legend when I first heard it. But nope, they actually thought that Snottingham would be a banger of a name, until they learned otherwise.

RobWords and the podcast he does, Words Unraveled, are both excellent.
