The Origin of Numbers

The “Hindu-Arabic Numerals” are by far the most commonly used symbols to represent numbers; and as the name suggests, they do not come from Europe. How did the Europeans, and later most of the world, come to use the numbers as we know them?

Numbers? I've never heard of this ethnic group. Are their leaders called Cardinals?

The level of advancement in mathematics that the Indians reached so long ago was truely fascinating

Amazing how the numbers we use today actually originated in the Hindu civilization; this great civilization has now reached the moon and Mars. Incredible people.

Here is the origin in simpler terms.

From Brahmi, Aryabatta, Brahmagupta, Al-Khwarizmi, Al-Kindi, Leonardo Fibonacci and then into Europe.

Thanks for the mini docu mate, funny how something so ubiquitous has so many facisnating ways of doing and origins. Numbers feel more intrinsic to life than writing itself.

*Calling it "Hindu-Arabic" is fine but just calling it "Arabic" is insult to the original inventors of the number systenm. Arabians just transported the system and it was actually invented by Indians. No offense.*

I didn't get the point of calling them Arabic numerals when their concept and their original form has their origin in india and Arabians just passed that concept to Europe without adding anything into it.

I thought that your channel would blow up after the Suez Canal video. It's a bit disappointing to see you only having 10.5k subscribers. I wish you all the best.

It's funny when you say that Al-Khwarizmi is Persian, but at the same time you put the picture (in minute 2:30) in which Al-Khwarizmi himself says that his lineage goes back to the Quraish tribe 😂😂
