Pseudo Rigid Body Objects Falling On Cloth | A Realistic Collision With Cloth Physics & Soft Body

In this Blender tutorial, we have discussed how to create a realistic collision between a cloth object and a falling body. Usually we tend to use rigid body physics for this interaction, but it does not yield a good result. Instead, if we use soft body physics, we can get a far better result. And we can tweak soft body physics to get an effect almost similar to rigid bodies. It perfectly interacts with any cloth object. But there are few other things that we need to also take care of. Please watch the video for the complete tutorial. If you have any question on this tutorial, please leave your comment below.

Thank you so much. There were so many tutorial for dropping the cloth on an object but not the other way round.
I was almost going crazy trying to figure out how to do it. Thank you for saving me.

Physics in Blender isn't something I've been too familiar with, but your videos have been very helpful!

Great Tutorial, Is there a way to tear the cloth with rigid body simulation?

One question. Noticed that there was no "Apply Scale" for the plane/cloth? It wasent necessary in this situation or? When should I be doing this?

Greetings Sir, I want to know what I should do if I want the object to remain fixed, what I mean is that I want the wrinkles of the fabric to move only if I move the sphere or some other object that is not the plane.

Just a comment on the SoftBody. So, if you set Pull and Push to 0.999, there will be a breach in the texture, but if you set it to just 0.990, everything works fine.

5:17 the ball very obviously jiggles when it hits. Soft body does a poor job approximating rigid objects.

Thanks for the great educational tutorial! It was helpful. But the fabric should not move before the object hits it and therefore the effect does not look realistic and natural. In any case, animation cannot be used anywhere in this form.

Hey, I have a problem. My falling object always stops at the height of the corners of the cloth. Does anyone have a solution for the problem? Thanks already!

if only the game engine could record shape keys as it can do rigid on soft physics but only records the original geometries translations.

Rigid Body Objects are NOT in this video, so the title is false. You should correct that instead of having false information out there. It should just be titled Soft Bodies and Physics.

Very nice with a plane, a cube or even a sphere. With real things? Pure banana oil.
