Seriously, Dan. Do you ever sleep?

This is the best bad idea you have ever had.

Just to chime in here:
I care about neither FInal Fantasy, nor about MMOs that much. But Dan, you have been so outspokenly enthusiastic about this idea, that I'm absolutely on board. There is nothing better than an enthusiastic Dan!

"How are you all enjoying this one-man voice acting show?"
Very much so.
"I hope you are. Boy there's a lot of it you're going to have to sit through."
Excellent.

Having the start and end of each quest labeled in the timeline is a great touch!

For those curious the god selection did used to have some stat based effects, namely elemental resistances. Over time the weight of those resistances lowered to the point of not mattering and were removed in patch 4.2 with the introduction of the Eureka zone which makes use of those resistances in a more impactful way.

Hey, Dan, I don't know if this feature is going to live to see all the story content of FF XIV, but I want to really thank you for giving it a try. Ever since Shadowbringers I've been really curious about this game and it's story. I've even bought the game, the expansions and created a character but never played it because the anxiety of playing games with other people and strangers is too much for me. I love the art of this game and even considered buying the games artbooks as a way to get some of the stuff that exist in FFXIV - specially knowing that the team is now doing XVI. I'm really happy this feature exist and that now I get a change to experience some of the best story of a Final Fantasy game. Thank you!

I’m actually really excited for this. I’ve tried multiple times to get into ff14. I’ve been a ff fan for a long time and I always hear great things about the later parts of 14. But getting through “season 1” as you call it, has stopped me dead each time. I’ve also never been able to get into mmo’s. But you’re enthusiasm in this episode alone makes up for a lot of what I found lacking when I played. And I already feel like I’m understanding and enjoying the quirky dialogue more than I did when played. I’ll be keeping up with this series and wishing you the best of luck with it, cause I really do want to get what people love about this game ;u;

"Welp. Time to show this town who's boss." *Lala waddles off into the unknown*

FFXIV was such a great experience once I got into it earlier this year. It almost immediately rocketed to the top of my personal charts as probably one of my favorite games I've ever played. I've never felt more respected as a player in an MMO than this game has made me feel. Every hour of time and emotion I've felt playing this game has felt real and valid, and I'm excited for others to experience the story this way!

My only worry with this series is that it’s going to make me want to play an mmo for the first time

Dan: Is this a bad idea? Y'all would tell me if it is a bad idea, right?

Yes, it kinda is because it might take years and you'll be doing it before and during the Endwalker launch. And no, we wouldn't.

Also, do the raids when they come up. Call it a hunch.

The earnestness of the opening line makes me smile.
"Is this a bad idea?..."
Your viewers aren't going to think so. This place is a haven of chill, and by and large we're here for that. I'm not a big MMO or JRPG player myself, but I've heard great things about this game. At worst, this gives me a chance to experience the game vicariously. At best, it gets me interested enough to step in and try it. So, thanks for the opportunity.

“Bad idea”? Dan, you’ve just stumbled onto the motherload of bad ideas.
Worse than LPing a series known for its convoluted plot points and every single spin off being canon.
Worse than playing a game that requires many multiple playthroughs for small additional scenes during the end, with little change between these playthroughs otherwise.
You’ve chosen a over 10 year old MMO to play. And you’re gonna cut out the grinding and travel times, and all the padding that makes this game so huge.
Good luck. You’ll need it. And we’ll be here watching every step of the way.

Ul'dah definitely has more than 5% more story than the other cities.
It's actually a pain point for a lot of RPers that while ARR leveling covers every city, after that, Gridania is basically abandoned (which is arguably because they struggle to write for the elementals without going back to "something happened, now the trees are killing innocents again, but we swear they're the protectors usually"), Limsa Lominsa gets just enough of an update to not stagnate like Gridania, while Ul'dah's state of affairs changes in detail with nearly every expansion.

25:19 "Time to show this town who's boss!" *waddle waddle* so cute!

The ARR intro is still my favorite just because of how powerful and hopeless it feels. Answers (the song that plays in it) is beautiful and the final lines:

"Thy life is a riddle, to bear rapture and sorrow
To listen, to suffer, to entrust onto tomorrow
In one fleeting moment, from the land doth life flow
Yet in one fleeting moment, for anew it doth grow
In the same fleeting moment, thou must live, die and know"

It is so sorrowful and, despite being made for 1.0 (the original, failed version of the game) they take so much meaning in the cutscene and even beyond, even being referenced in the intro music for the next expansion.

Edit: Also, nice to see that you play in the same server I do!
