Tried all of that. Decided that citrus peels was the best. Cuties, oranges, grapefruit. Right after breakfast works best!

I've done things for a stinky drain like putting orange or lemon peels in the disposal and also the baking soda. But now I have to get that disposal cleaner if for nothing else but to watch it send blue foam up both sides. Pretty cool. 😊

You are supposed to use COLD water. The ice is not supposed to melt. If it melts it will not do the job it was made to do when its used to clean the disposal. It isnt a tic toc thing. It is a real handy man trick.

I cut citrus and throw down the hole and grind!

Judging by the rag you used to wipe inside your disposal, I have to start cleaning mine more often, lol

Small chunks of an orange peel, lime peel, or lemon peel with help as well! Gives it a nice fresh citrus smell ;)

The baking soda and vinegar work well but you need to put as much baking soda as possible and just enough vinegar to start the bubbling. After a minute or 2 add some more and repeat until all the baking soda is gone. Follow up with hot water making sure you rinse out the drain from the other side as well

Didn't you have a dishwasher in your old kitchen? Personally, I cannot live without one.

Something else to clean is your nozzle for sprayer. I was shocked when I turned ours over. I used an old toothbrush after inserting nozzle in some vinegar and letting it sit for a while. Love your videos!

You’re not supposed to use hot water. The hot water melted the ice before it went down the disposal

I'm guessing you're a huge fan of This Old House on PBS.

Hey Joel, in your other video about remounting the kitchen sink, I noticed the pipe going to the disposal looked back pitched. That could be contributing to the smell. I could be wrong though! Love your videos especially the plumbing ones as I am a plumbers apprentice 😊

I think you have to use cold water, instead of hot water with the ice. I saw a video and they used cold water and ice and all that brown dirt came up.

The Tik Tok and other videos I’ve seen said to use cold water while packing with ice. I still don’t think that solves the smell, but I want to try for the cleaning, just afraid of breaking. 😬
It’s an older disposal.

Hello I am coming here from Bonnie’s channel, since she doesn’t have comments I don’t have Instagram to contact her. Just an idea with her issues. Have they checked for Covid antibodies test?
Since I had Covid I have struggled terribly with coming and going insomnia. also the headache lingered for a long time! I just wondered if that could be her issue. She may have had Covid and not known it. Just a thought.

I am in an apartment and the maintenance manager swears by the ice cube method and that is what I do. Always use cold water to use your disposal. That is what my instructions are. Maybe because if you run hot water on it it makes the smell worse and melts the ice cubes too quickly. Keep pushing ice cubes in. To be honest, I sometimes do it without water at all because the shards of ice work like sandpaper to get the gunk off. NOISY but it works. I also buy lemons on sale and cut them up and freeze them in a bag and put some of those in with the ice. These apartments are 13 years old and I have yet to have anyone tell me my disposal stinks. Just saying. We all need to do what works for us. use an old toothbrush to scrub that rubber thing that sits in the opening because mine has ridges that catches food.
