In some cases, this could be a condition called Diastasis Recti, which is a split of the rectus abdominis muscles, commonly known as the 'six-pack abs'.

This often occurs in mothers who do not recover after giving birth, as the muscles separate during pregnancy to support the growing baby. The common signs of a diastasis recti include lower back pain, a persistent bulge, loose skin around the abdomen, poor core strength, weak pelvic floor muscles and incontinence.
