Habits control everything you do. So it's fair to say that if you want to change your life, you must FIRST change your habits. This video will show you an easy & proven way to build good habits & break bad ones. Talking about Atomic Habits by James Clear.

NOTES:

CAT STUDY: psychologist Edward Thorndike did an experiment on cats placed in a pitch-black box.
Each cat did what you’d think — scrambling around for minutes and freaking out! Clawing at walls. There was a lever that when the pressed door would open cat eventually found. Thorndike kept doing it to the same cats that escaped successfully. The response was after 20 or 30 times doing this avg cat escape in 6 seconds. It became habitual. Cats learned the power of habits - became conditioned and almost automatic. Saved all the panic of “OH MY GOD GOTTA ESCAPE!” -- Also got what they wanted FASTER with LESS effort: Out

You might be thinking: “Won’t habits make my life dull? Robotic? Where’s the fun/spontaneity/freedom!?” -- It’s the opposite. (i.e. me filming content first thing in the morning vs. stress no schedule have to) - discipline gives you freedom

ACTION // IMPLEMENT
What is ONE habit you KNOW would help you in 2.0 journey? (START DOING)
What is ONE habit you KNOW is holding you back at 1.0? (STOP DOING)

THINK ABOUT IT: Winners and losers have the SAME GOALS! Habits are what determines if you WIN or LOSE — NOT goals!

THE GOAL IS NOT TO read one book BUT TO become a reader
THE GOAL IS NOT TO make $1M dollars BUT TO become financially free
THE GOAL IS NOT TO workout daily BUT TO become someone at 10% body fat

Dopamine Addiction
In 1954 two neuroscientists ran an experiment testing desire - using electrodes that blocked the release of dopamine in rats… what happened? Less motivated? Lazy? Fat? WORSE! They DIED. NO desire to eat, drink, reproduce, or do anything else — died of thirst. All of them. Habits are wired into us ALL leading to one thing: avoiding pain and seeking pleasure!

4 LAWS of BUILDING HABITS:
Think about the habit from earlier
Make it obvious
Make it attractive
Make it easy
Make it satisfying

4 LAWS of BREAKING HABITS:
Think about your habit from earlier
Make it invisible
Make it unattractive
Make it difficult
Make it unsatisfying

Read this book a year ago. over the summer read "biology of belief" by Bruce Lipton, he talks about the subconscious mind as like a jukebox full of old records, these records were put there when you were a kid. If you never changed the records in your jukebox, then how can you get mad and kick the jukebox for not playing the songs you want to hear when things aren't going the way you want. We have to "put new records in our jukebox" if we want different results in our life, change your subconscious programs/ records.

“Goals are good for setting a direction, but systems are best for making progress.” A good reminder from the book. I also like the workbook called 30 Days to Reduce Stress by Harper Daniels, as it teaches mindfulness, which is powerful.

Hey Clark, thank you man. This is awesome! As far as massive change goes, when I need a change or I get the urge/feeling for a massive change I shave my head! It worked for me multiple times and I don't know why though. Another change is taking cold showers in the morning I feel like it's my reset button. Thanks again for the book summary. Need to read the book too. Take care.

Can you make a video on the video making process? How you use key concepts from books and perhaps how you ensure you've understood the books properly? I always find that when I talk abt books I end up quoting them precisely and I would love some tips

Clark, this was great content, thank you very much. A friend introduced me to this book and I have read the first two chapters, already I have received new helpful new insights that I can put into practice. I just wanna let you know that there were 3 ads in the middle of your video at various times and it interrupted your flow as well as disrupted my thought processes, pulling me out of the zone I was in when listening to you. Well, I know you gotta monetize somehow and it contributes to your bread and butter but at the same time, the ads do your content a disservice because they're so sudden and you sometimes get cut off in the middle of speaking about a thought or an idea. I don't know whether there's anything you can do about it, but I thought I'd let you know.

I am now in my eighties. I stopped smoking forty years ago after about 25 years of Camels and or Chesterfields. I decided not to clean any astray until I quit. I did not clean them for this duration and while I don't remember how long my ashtrays when without cleaning, it worked for me. Could have been weeks or months but I haven't had nor wanted a cigarette since.
