I bought the Samuel Johnson Selected Works. I bought it on Amazon, greatly reduced, as the dustjacket was grubby. I cleaned it with an eraser and it's perfect. I have spent all afternoon immersed in it. I am so glad I bought it. The Abbey book's sister book about castles was by Sir Charles Oman, historian. It too is published by the GWR. I mention it in case you'd like it too.

This was the first time I ever heard anyone in America mentioned the name Walter Jackson Bate. When I read this biography I was intoxicated and went on to read two of the other three books that you held up. I wrote a fan letter to Bate and he was kind enough to write back. He said his biography of Keats was too long, but if you see it at the Brattle I sure would love to read it now. And of course every time I went to London I visited Gough Square. Keep up the good work, you have tuned me into quite a number of things that I had no knowledge of. Thanks

My local bookstores all got in that beautiful new Selected Sam Johnson at the start of the year. $80 a piece. Not one has been sold. And yet they remain, in their great big pile, at $80 a piece … Oh, Australia!
