Part of infinity war's charm is how deep a character Thanos is. He isn't like other MCU villains that are just one sided cold-blooded murder machines. Thanos doesn't take pleasure in killing, he sees it as a necessary sacrifice for the salvation of the universe. He isn't inherently evil either, he truly did love Gamora or else the soul stone wouldn't have accepted him. This scene is just conflicting in so many ways thanks to Thanos and his character. Well DONE Marvel!
