ts time to plant fruit trees in Zone 9a on the Texas coast. Dormant bare root trees are the most cost-effective way to get a quality tree and to start out right. Join Sam and I as we plant our newest fruit tree, an Apricot, in our backyard micro-orchard where we are practicing Backyard Orchard Culture.

Black Gumbo shares our suburban, backyard, sustainable gardening efforts. We work a small-scale teaching garden, much like the typical Zone 9a backyard garden and raised beds, the kind of gardening accessible to all. We tend to take the slice of life approach and hope you will enjoy our family, our dog, our cooking, our adventures, and occasionally some commentary and advice. We love family, joy and friendship, and we invite you to enjoy these things with us!

Thank You Scott. I have to move a lime that my daughter planted next to my garage an a orange that my son an friend planted too close to a fence! If only they would have asked me beforehand! This video has given me encouragement to do these projects so I thank You Scott. Hopefully I’ll be getting a few Passion fruit to plant along my chain link from my sons friend.( His friend is just a Awesome gardener. She’s 22 and has transformed her parents front yard into a vegetable an fruit garden. So many wooden planter beds 😮She really wants to help feed the community. ) I know I have to keep Passion fruit under control 😄😄but that’s my next to do project. Take care & stay safe an Enjoy the nice weather coming your way I hear it’s going to be nice. Best wishes to you & your family!🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱

man, I want an apricot tree so bad. I have to push the zone a little for them, but they're just so lovely. Thanks for this tutorial.

My Sam is a 6" electric posthole auger. Also, Howard Garrett says to plant the crown high.

Apricots are ok, I'd be excited for those peaches though!

So far we have a pear tree that we bought and also the stock tree we grew from a pear seed. Hoping to graft a branch in the future. But would really like a plum and peach tree. This property did have plum trees before but I remember weird bumps on the branches so will have to learn more about that first. At least thanks to you I know how to prune/shape them. Too bad apricot trees don't grow here in Ontario Canada

😊thanks so happy. Love fruit trees. I need smaller trees that can give me fruit. Had a great dwarf Italian lemon tree it took a few years but finally decided to wake up and give me the most beautiful tasting Sicilian lemons and of course my ex-boyfriend just thought it was dead. It was just probably sleeping and he threw it out along with my fig tree that’s why he is my ex-boyfriend, he has no idea of how beautiful it is to grow and see things mature, and you can finally eat from that beautiful little seedling so he remains my ex boyfriend, no feelings whatsoever. If it was up to him, he would just put concrete over everything excuse me, but he is a ass call bless you. Looking forward to this. Thanks a lot happy new year.

I need a dog like that. Apparently, you've trained him to capture a hole digger

SCOTT - what kind of Apricot tree is that? I would like to plant an apricot tree but don't know what kind of Apricot tree to plant near Houston. We enjoy your channel. Thanks.

Happy New Year from San Antonio Scott! I have a question. My Lemon tree and Hibiscus didn't make it from the freeze. Should I leave them alone? Or trim them back? Or just pull them out? Thanks.

you should have added some good soil and fertilizer, my guess!

I really liked this video.
Do you dehydrate or pressure can or preserve(except jelly and pickles) foods?

Wonderful, we had great players, like Islahuddin, Shahnaaz Sheikh, if we could see them.
