I go into the science on antioxidants and sports performance and the difference between antioxidants from supplements versus real food. Do they aid recovery or reduce training adaptation?! Leave your training questions in the comments and I'll answer them or make a video!

Most articulate explanation of this issue that I have heard to date. I would like to mention that, as I understand, ascorbic acid
, the ingredient in C supplements, is only one of four parts of the natural C found in foods.

Thanks Dylan, I find your videos informative and relevant. You have a good way of getting your point across. Possibly one of the most underrated channels on YouTube at the moment. Keep up the great work!

Thanks this is a very good video and the sound control was much better on this one. As a person who tries to be vegan or vegetarian and I don't take supplements this was particularly relevant. I try to get my nutrients through whole foods and have never found myself deficient in protein or any nutrient level. Thanks for adding in your own personal experience on these videos

you should do a video on supplements i.e. BeetElite and Sp2 and any other safe supplement

one thing that wasn't addressed is many artificial vitamin sources don't get ingested properly so it doesn't matter how much you eat but rather what matter is how much is actually absorbed by the body...

Dylan, thanks a lot 👐 great review as well as others! Your work is useful & beneficial, especially as lotta times said before because of the article-based approach. There is a real lack of argumentation in the majority of popular sport books.
One more time, thanks 👍

Your videos are great because you back up everything you talk about with science. I would like to know more about what I should drink and eat specifically after a workout... I'm now searching your videos for this, I've heard you mention tomato juice quite a bit

Super interesting! I've been wondering about this topic for a while, but I never researched it.

Thank you, Dylan.

We dont know enough about nutrition. The only supplement I take are D, K2 and B12 occasionally Mg. Even minerals are not straight forward (take a look at mineral wheel). At a guess I would say for every substance we know about there are numerous other unknown molecules required to utilise them. Sometimes when we take something, we down regulate our natural (endogenic) production of it.
Also there could be a danger of over nutrition of natural food eg red cabbage, blueberry smoothies etc etc. We just need to eat unrefined and varied food according to calorie expenditure. Also im not particularly convinced of the need of post ride nutrition. I think occasionally athletes accidentally do the right thing in their efforts to eat properly. Most are wasting their time. If you take a protein shake you are essentially denying your self something that would normally come with it in food.

First of all, I love your videos and your scientific approach. How you are using and citing actual scientific papers to make your points, should be the standard for all popular science media.
Anyway, even a sound scientific approach doesn't necessarily produce the ultimate truth, so it's usually a good thing to ask skeptical questions.
What remains a bit questionable for me is the whole "whole food" thing. Because from how I understand you, there seems to be a difference between antioxidants contained in food vs. isolated antioxidants in supplements, although in terms of chemistry they seem to be identical. What's the difference, really?
And furthermore, is there a difference between consuming a certain combination of nutrients from whole food vs. consuming exactly the same combination of nutrients together(!) from isolated sources? The only real difference I could imagine is how well the nutrients are digested and absorbed by the body.
Anyway, keep up the good work! I love it.

I was drinking 1000mg of vitamin C while watching this, but even if it stifles my training gains, it keeps me healthy enough to train...
