Visceral fat is what most of us think of as belly fat. It is the term used to describe the fat that builds up within the abdomen. Visceral fat cannot be pinched, but it does expand your waistline, crowd your internal organs, and actively contribute to disease.

In this video, I’ll explain why this type of fat is harmful and how you can get rid of it.

Dropping the 100 lbs of misery weight I put on after a spinal cord injury with these exact methods. Doing it from a wheelchair with zero movement below my chest. Calorie restriction and the typical 3 meal diet would have never had these results. I’m 70lbs down in less than a year 💪♿️

I retired in April 2020 at age 62 and weight 205 at 5'8".
I've lost 47 pounds and now weigh 158 on May 31, 2021 (BMI Normal).
I initially lost 25 in 4 months, then plateaued for about 6 months.
Learned more tactics, then lost the next 22 in just over 3 months.

You’re so soothing to listen to. You should consider narrating audiobooks.

Even when I was thinner, I didn’t realise just how much visceral fat I had. It took low-carb and IF/OMAD to finally burn it off. Eat fat to burn fat, who knew?
Love as always Becky, you’re a lifesaver! ♥️

Dr. Becky, two years ago I followed you faithfully on YouTube. I lost weight and gained muscle. I stopped watching you and slowly returned to my bad habits. I gained some of the weight back and now am back to watching you in order to lose the weight I gained back and to get healthier. I thank you for sharing your knowledge. Blessings.

All the info I needed and the video wasn’t much over 5 minutes. Wow. Better than searching google and reading through loads of stuff. You explained it all so well — thank you!

Concise, informative, and soothing. This video pretty much captures all the basics about insulin resistance and belly weight loss.

You Tube has many self-appointed diet and health gurus with a Dr prefix, often in an unrelated specialist field - so it is reassuring and a delight to listen to Dr Becky who is well-qualified, cogent, and rational about what works and what does not re eating well and losing weight. Much appreciation Dr Becky from Australia 🇦🇺.

Thank you so much for your helpful advice delivered in such a calm way. I am 6 weeks into a 16:8 low carb diet and have lost 10lb so far. It has also gradually lowered my fasting blood glucose levels. This morning I calculated my BMI and it was 24.9 so I am at the upper end of the normal weight range for the first time in 46 years! This gives me the incentive to keep going so that I can face the rest of my old age feeling so much healthier. Carol UK

Visceral fat is caused by eating more calories than you burn and not moving enough. A waist circumference of 80cm or more for females and 94 cm or more for males could mean that you have too much visceral fat.

Fortunately, there are proven strategies you can follow to help reduce visceral fat. Some of these include eating fewer carbs and less added sugar, doing more aerobic exercise and increasing your protein intake. By trying a few of these strategies, you can lose visceral fat and improve your health.

To prevent visceral fat, focus on maintaining a healthy balanced diet and keeping physically active.

I've been losing a lot of weight over a long period of time. So far my total loss is about 200 pounds. I have a ways to go but I have very little "Pinchable" fat compared to what I had. What I know about weight loss is terribly outdated but I've been doing a lot of study by way talking to physicians. Sadly there seems to be as many ideas about handling this problem as there are doctors. I have about 60 or 70 pounds to go and a couple bad habits left to break. Watching this video has reminding me of things that I already knew and taught me a few new things. Thank you.

Thank you! My biggest problem is visceral fat. My other problem is carb addiction. I’m going to try and hopefully stick with the high fat, moderate protein approach along with lots of leafy greens. I was really feeling hopeless until now. Thanks!

Dropping weight since Sept, I've had a flat stomach (ok, with some loose skin) first time since my mid fifties (62) I thought things just "shifted" in menopause but changing diet did help not counting calories.Exercise didn't help but good for you in other ways. Low carbs from 50-80 most days not Keto, worked for me.

I don't know if it is nerves robbing you of appetite, or redirected energy amping up your exercise routine, but you look slimmer and trimmer than ever! Again, you are the epitome of professional representation. You and your info are much appreciated! 👏👍💕Page 202 will probably be prepared along with dinner this weekend. 😉I LOVE them.
