In this video I interview Marietta historian Harley Noland who probably knows more about the city than anyone else alive. I spent two days with Harley as he gave me a private tour of the beautiful historic river town following up with this video interview on top of an ancient Indian burial mound where we talk about why Marietta is the most historic city in the state of Ohio.

We moved to Marietta in 1963, 31:46 when I was 10, and I thought I'd gone to Heaven! It was a great place to be a kid back then. It was good to see Harley; he was a year ahead of me in highschool, as was Mayor Shlicher's mother. Excellent presentation!

My family and I lived in Marietta for five years. A wonderful town to raise a family, or even to visit on a weekend when they host one of their many festivals. The downtown has many excellent dining and entertainment options as well.

When I read David McCullough's book The Pioneers (2019), he mentioned all the brick in Marietta early on, and I wondered whether it was locally made or floated down from Pittsburgh. Your interview with Harley answered that question at 20:49. Thanks.

We visit Marietta often because there are so many things to see and do. We bike around on the river trail, eat at local restaurants, walking is shopping is nice, and educational things for the grandchildren. Lovely city that holds onto their history due to the good work of this man. The Trolley ride is great.

Very informative video. I'm a Pennsylvanian, currently living in Maine. For some reason I've always been drawn to Marietta. Hopefully i can convince my fiance to move here some day.
