The BA pilot admitted he wasn't listening to ATC. In every airline I have worked for, when pushing back, the captain communicates with the ground crew, and the FO monitors and communicates with ground control specifically to avoid situations like this. That is pretty standard everywhere. Regardless, when in a movement area (any area on the ground controlled by ATC), you are supposed to be in contact with ATC. So the BA guy coping an attitude for his own admitted failures is a bit funny.

Sounds like the controller, using the "belt and suspenders" technique, covered the situation adequately. Would have been better for both pilots to know what was going to happen, but redundancy, necessary for all communication, prevented a serious problem.

The BA pilot was in the MUST ensure response, not say she couldn’t get through or accuse them of not listening....hope they filed that ASR

I listened to the conversation 5 times. ATC lied. Never warned about other aircraft behind. I know. This job is stressing. Talking and looking at triangles on a screen.
