ABOUT THIS VIDEO
In this video, I talk about fast speech and how to sound more like a native English speaker. First, we discuss 10 words & phrases. Then I give 3 important tips.

(I also discuss how to hear the difference between "can" and "can't," which is a question students often ask me)

The three biggest tips I share in this video are...

1. The way words sound changes based on their environment
2. Your ears won't deceive you 99% of the time
3. Repeat what you hear right after you hear it

Remember, fast speech isn't really about speaking "quickly"... but it may sound very quick to you since you are a non-native English speaker.

Fast speech simply refers to the way native English speakers change and eliminate sounds as they speak normal, everyday English.

If you are trying to sound more like a native speaker with an American English accent, I give lots of examples in this video to make you aware of what to listen for.

Finally, learning pronunciation by reading how words are spelled is VERY confusing because English is not a phonetic language. So, the best way to learn pronunciation is to listen carefully and imitate what you hear.

Here is the list of phrases I discuss in the video:

- What are you doing later?
- Especially
- Excuse me
- Fundamental
- Probably
- Comfortable
- Can vs. can't
- Let me know
- Do you want water or tea or anything?

Come on guys. Let's stop embarrassing her. She's really beautiful. I also think it. But some of us are being really rude and she's having to write every single time that she's married. Let's show some respect.

Dear English Coach {I think Stephany is your name} Yesterday I was watching your videos, and I was just delighted in so. Today woke up with the eager desire to listen to them as after having watched just three of them my English, which is pretty rusty leveled up inmediately.
I'm originally from Chile, but live in Brazil currently. You're, in some way close to me as my mother tongue is Spanish and I lived for two years in Buenos Aires before moving to Brazil.
Just would like to hugely thank you for your videos, as I read from a guy somewhere over here, "you have the gift of teaching".
Once again thank you, congratulations for your work and needed to know the strenght of your pure desire has caused an enormous effect on me {English studying/come back to study it.
Sorry for any mistake I may have commited here. I'm not using any translator, just the little English I learnt about 30 years ago at school.
Hugs from the beautiful Brazil,
Sachi

As has been mentioned before, I'm a native English speaker, but I love these videos! It is kind of funny how we choose what to spell out and not. Very often I see "lemme go" "Wanna go?" as opposed to "Let me go" or "Want to go", but yeah, "especially" is spelled out.

So many things simply aren't taught to us in a broken-down manner. We just pick it up as we go, and that's how it is.

I had to pause at the, "Do you want water, or tea..." moment just to add my two cents (there's another idiom for ya <- ya/you, ) and mention we often don't even say "Do you want", it becomes "d'you'want" (jyu-wan), and sometimes even further where "want anything" gets mashed into "w'anything".

"Do you want anything" --> "D'yu'w'anything?".. Maybe that's just my accent, but it really gets like that, lol

Oh man, I feel like there's such a love/hate relationship with English. But I really do love what we can do with words and letters.
