ABOUT THIS VIDEO

In this video, I demonstrate 19 examples of fast & connected speech in American English. The goal of this video is to improve your listening skills and help you get more comfortable with how native speakers sound in the USA. You do NOT have to speak like this yourself. Learning connected speech will definitely help you sound more natural in English, but the examples in this video are VERY fast. If you have a strong accent, I don't recommend trying to speak this quickly as it will interfere with your intelligibility (people won't understand you!). First, work to improve your pronunciation. As you gain more control of your vocal apparatus (tongue, vocal chords, lips, etc.), you will be able to speak FASTER while maintaining your CLARITY.

Here is the list of examples from this video:

How did you sleep?
I didn't even know that
Come here
of = uh
Gotcha!
Do you want me to look it up?
That would be nice
What time is it?
Nice to meet you
Are you hungry?
Did you eat yet?
How does this work?
What do you think?
Nuff said
'Bout time
and = n
Don't even go there
How 'bout
It's not that big of a deal

First time I’ve been in USA, I went to a fast food and after make my order, the guy ask “for here or to go”. But he spoke so fast that all I heard was “freertogo”.
I asked him to repeat 2 times, until he said very slowly and making hands signals “u are going to eat here or take it to your home?”
lol
It was embarrassing.

Watching this with English as my first language is FASCINATING because I don’t even realize I do these things and it’s hilarious because it’s so true and probably so hard for non native speakers to understand I’m so sorry Americans are like this

In Brazil, some teachers say "if you do not use 'do' or 'does' correctly the native will not understand you!!!", after watching this movie I am sure many English Teachers in my country is so badly prepared to reality. Way to Go! Salute from Brazil.
