ABOUT THIS VIDEO
In this video, I talk about fast speech and how to sound more like a native English speaker.

Remember, fast speech isn't really about speaking "quickly"... but it may sound very quick to you since you are a non-native English speaker.

Fast speech simply refers to the way native English speakers change and eliminate sounds as they speak normal, everyday English.

If you are trying to sound more like a native speaker with an American English accent, I give lots of examples in this video to make you aware of what to listen for.

Finally, learning pronunciation by reading how words are spelled is VERY confusing because English is not a phonetic language. So, the best way to learn pronunciation is to listen carefully and imitate what you hear.

NOTE: Fast speech and connected speech are the same thing

Also, here is the list of phrases I discuss in the video:

-What are you doing later?
-Where is he at?
-Did you give it to him?
-How did it go?
-What do you mean?
-Can I go?
-How is it going?
-Would you give it to me.
-I have to go to the store
-Where did you get them?
-I don't know how to do it.

I was born and raised in the Philippines and English is our 2nd official language. We're taught since we're in preparatory and the medium of instruction in our school is English. But unlike my peers, I'm a little more passionate about learning the language and even more passionate about sounding like a native. I'd watch countless American tv shows and movies to expose myself to American English. It paid off....few years later I found myself speaking the language fluently with an American accent. It just flows . Now, I find it easier to express my thoughts using English, than my own native language. Weird. LOL.

I lived in New York for 10 years,
if every American spoke English like you, I would be the happiest man in the world. I understand 100 % of your beautiful speaking voice. Thank you Stefanie

I'm a native speaker and I just noticed how hard English is to learn if you are not from an English speaking country

I’m from America and English is my first language but for some reason I love to watch these videos to see what non-native speakers have to learn. I honestly kind of feel bad because we have so many different ways to say one word or sound. English is so complicated 🤦🏼‍♀️

As a native English speaker I never thought about this. I’m fascinated by linguistics and by English. When I studied abroad and met study abroad friends at my school in America it really opened my eyes to how complex English is. So props to anyone who can learn this freakin language

Thank God I learned English by watching TV, movies and listening to music. All of these examples come natural for me.

I can understand everything that you say in your videos, but when I try to watch a movie or a series without subtitles I can't. It's so frustrating... These kinds of tips are helping to figure out the reason why. Thanks!

I'm not a native speaker and since I was a kid, I wanted to speak English and now that I can do it, I've realized if you speak as everybody does, automatically you'll get the accent and use fast speech correctly.
