Should Christians Choose The Chosen?

The Chosen is a wildly popular series depicting the life and ministry of Jesus Christ. But is it accurate? Are there inherent problems with all films depicting God the Son? In today's program, I interviewed Pastor Gabriel Hughes, host of the WWUTT podcast.

Nothing portrays Christ better than the Bible. I'll stick with that :)

When I was newly saved I watched the first season of the Chosen. Loved it. By the second season I had enough discernment to understand that it wasn’t something I should expose myself to. Thank you Holy Spirit!

Hi! I just want to say that for me, this show was a significant factor for me to be so incredibly curious and hungry for the real word of God.
I grew up in a home with witchcraft and all sorts of nonsense. I am Mexican but I did not grow up in catholicism or Christianity.
I grew up seeing so much hurt and pain. Cartels, murders, trafficking. Så, I had a hard time believing in any religion.
I had some tiny spark of curiosity, but the show certainly ignited that hunger to know much more.
I do not see the show as gospel and that's why I seek the word of God in the bible, but what it did say to me was... that Jesus is the light and the truth, the perfect son of God and the only way to salvation. But most of all, that God is love. This is my own interpretation.
I wanted to know really, with my own eyes what the bible said and it's a million times better than any show.
😊
I gave my life to Jesus on the 23rd of June 2023, I have been reading my Bible almost every single day and I've shared the little I know with my family and friends.
I am too new to the faith to say anything other than God works in mysterious ways.
God bless you gentlemen and I thank you for your honest opinion. ❤

Stick to the Bible, brothers and sisters. Teach your kids the Bible. We must be able to discern between right and almost right. If it’s almost right, throw it away and cling to truth!

As someone who hadn’t picked up my bible in years, The Chosen drove me to want to read my bible to see how accurate it is. It is a show, but for me, it’s a show that has got me on a journey of faith. How many other people are on that same journey because of that show that would not be without it? If you’re already a church going, bible reading Christian, I can see your point, but that wasn’t me. If I had seen your video before I saw the show, would I be where I am today. Probably not.

When I was about 20 years old, I watched Jesus Of Nazareth movie with Robert Powell as Jesus. I was not a believer and this movie moved me one step closer to accepting Jesus. I cried my eyes out in the end, realizing that I was a sinner.

Against my better judgement, my son and I attended a Mormon church here in Ontario, Canada by invitation from a missionary. The first half was a woman speaker and her main message was how wonderful the new temple was that they built in Toronto and that she had been there and she went on and on about the temple. They served communion and it was water and a wafer... which we didn't take. The second half of the service was like the Sunday school lesson and the young missionary who taught it, read mainly out of the book of Mormon and the Pearl of Great Price. My son, who went to a Baptist bible college asked them a few questions, one of which they could not answer. I wish I could remember what it was!! Anyways, they were the nicest most welcoming people, two of whom I knew but wasn't aware they were Mormons. It was an experience, but they do NOT believe in the same Jesus that we do.

I actually have high respect for the movie from Mel Gibson's " Passion of The Christ" ...truly compelling ..

As a backslid Christian from my teens, I’m now 58, the past few years really had me questioning “what is truth”. I recently watched all 3 seasons of “The Chosen” and “The Passion of the Christ”. A combinations which lead me to re-dedicate my life to the Lord. So as inaccurate as they may be, I have to give them kudos for something. I’m still searching for truth, hence watching lots of Costi Hinn and Justin Peters. I’ll watch Season 4 with less blind faith, a discernible eye and more knowledge of its inaccuracies, thanks fellas!

When the world raves about a TV show about JESUS, that in itself should make it highly questionable.

A TV show isn't scripture. They always get it wrong. Read the Bible, all you need is there.

While I understand this discussion btw these two gentlemen, I must say this, I have been a Christian for the majority of my life. I am 59 and became a Christian at age 17. My husband whom I’ve been married to for 13 years, always believed in God but had many bad experiences in “so call churches” therefore causing him to stop going. Throughout our marriage, he has observed my faith and he began to watch church on TV and was fond of Olsteen. I, personally don’t lean into Olsteen because I feel like he is more of a motivational speaker rather than a preacher. So after my husband watching him for years, he began to venture out to other preacher & we started going to church together, over time my husband began to realize that there was a lot more to this Christian life than what he realized and it began to move him spiritually. I am proud to say that he has move past Olsteen and 2 years ago during Covid, he was saved & baptized. I guess my point is, for my husband…….even though I had negative thoughts of Olsteen preaching, it ultimately lead my husband into his salvation. Today, my husband NO LONGER listens to Olsteen but listens to pastors such as Justin, Voodie, John MacArthur. I am grateful that my husband found Christ 🙏🏻

Here's a thought. Watch "The Chosen" with wisdom, discernment, and with your bible open.

The purpose of this series is much more nefarious than most would ever catch. It shows NOT the Jesus of the Bible who saves, but another christ and another gospel. Please watch "The Chosen Exposen" documentary. They did all the hard work. Thank you Justin Peters and Gabe for being willing to take more chances at offending people for the sake of their souls. God bless you.

Scene 1 Episode 1 has a disclaimer in the first few seconds encouraging viewers to read the gospels for themselves. I’ve never seen that in any other movie about Jesus. I do love The Chosen TV series, but it’s not my Bible. And I’ve seen its creators, writers, and directors say on several occasions that it shouldn’t be.

I was saved earlier this year (by Jesus alone) and it was around this time that the chosen also caught my attention and I was moved by it. Yes, stick with the Bible, always engage in discernment and especially these type of interviews and accurate biblical teachings, but this show did encourage me to run to Jesus and away from dangerous environments and I appreciate that.

I just watched the first season, understanding some of the controversity. Every time I was confronted with a question I paused and did some research. I have to say that it threw me at first some of the background of all the characters. But, I thought this was a strength of the show. We've all wondered about what the desciples were like. In the series I saw their humanity. I have a pretty grounded in scripture. So, with that said. I had no problem with them messing a little with the context, so long as the biblical quotes were acurate. I have found so far (having yet to see seasons 2 and 3) I was impressed with the portrayal of Jesus. His humour, good nature and non fussed portrayal was very interesting. I also want to say that many people without knowledge of Christ, might actually be inspired to start searching and in today's woke world this is a good thing.
