Vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid, is a water-soluble vitamin that has several benefits for the skin. Here are some of the key benefits of vitamin C for skin:

Provides antioxidant protection: Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that helps to protect the skin from damage caused by free radicals, which are unstable molecules that can cause cellular damage and contribute to aging. Vitamin C can neutralize free radicals and help to prevent oxidative stress.

Boosts collagen production: Vitamin C is essential for the production of collagen, a protein that provides structure and firmness to the skin. Collagen production declines with age, leading to wrinkles and sagging skin. By boosting collagen production, vitamin C can help to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and enhance skin firmness.
Brightens and evens skin tone: Vitamin C can help to brighten the skin and even out skin tone by inhibiting the production of melanin, the pigment that gives skin its color. This can be particularly beneficial for those with hyperpigmentation or age spots.

Improves skin hydration: Vitamin C can help to improve skin hydration by enhancing the skin’s barrier function and preventing moisture loss. This can help to keep the skin looking plump and healthy.

Reduces inflammation: Vitamin C has anti-inflammatory properties that can help to reduce redness and inflammation in the skin. This can be particularly beneficial for those with sensitive or acne-prone skin.

Start with a good formulation of L-ascorbic acid, 10% before moving to 15-20%.

Topically applied Vitamin C can help to brighten the skin, reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and improve skin tone and texture. Additionally, Vitamin C has been shown to be effective in treating hyperpigmentation, age spots, and melasma. It also helps to neutralize free radicals that can lead to acne, eczema, psoriasis and other skin conditions.

Vitamin C is typically used in the form of a serum, which is applied to the skin before moisturizer. It’s important to use a product with a high enough concentration of Vitamin C and in a stable formula to ensure effectiveness.

Vitamin C helps to reduce pigmentation in the skin by inhibiting the production of melanin. Melanin is the pigment that gives color to our skin and is responsible for the appearance of age spots, freckles, and other forms of hyperpigmentation.

Vitamin C has been shown to inhibit the activity of the enzyme tyrosinase, which is responsible for the production of melanin. By reducing the production of melanin in the skin, vitamin C can help to lighten areas of hyperpigmentation, resulting in a more even skin tone. Additionally, Vitamin C can help to prevent the formation of new pigmentation by blocking the formation of new melanin. Vitamin C also has antioxidant properties, so it can neutralize free radicals that can lead to uneven skin tone, discoloration and pigmentation issues.

It’s important to note that while Vitamin C is an effective ingredient to lighten pigmentation, it should be used in conjunction with other ingredients and a good sun protection routine to enhance the results and prevent further pigmentation. You can find a great range of cosmeceutical vitamin C serums at The Formulated.

Thank you good Doctor! Where has this simplistic bit of information been all my life? You keep it short and sweet which I consider a big plus😊

Hello, I would like to add that a dermatologist is a doctor but this is a seller. I can tell you that in chemistry at school you all should be told that vitamin is a to big molecule to go through your skin barrier. Please stop spending your money on creams but just eat your vitamins, and if you did not got told by your teachers. Please hear me then, I also studied molecular biology. Have a great day, and eat a nice soup today. Happy days.

One skincare ingredient my skin doesn't react well to. Tried many but prefer to use other options altogether after wasting so much money.

I've given up on all the serums, vitamin stuff, etc and just use the most basic skin care as my skin just reacts to everything! So, its a no no for me to use anything other than a very gentle, lighter moisturiser, very gentle sunscreen and very gentle cleanser. No makeup either. Its all too much for my menopausal skin.

Had no idea it stimulates collagen production! Unfortunately every vitamin c gives me acne. No rash, but actual pimples. What other tyrosine inhibitor can I use with a ferulic acid serum? That’s just an antioxidant right? Not tyrosine inhibitor?

The serum contains 3-0 -Ethyl ascorbic acid, efficacious at a pH of 5.65. Nothing wrong with EAA but don’t try to pass it off as L- AA, & include pH of the product you are advertising. Formulation matters and this has Propanediol, Pentylene Glycol and Glycerin, all good for helping the EAA get Into the skin. Timeless C E Ferrulic is probably better, plus it’s cheaper and has L AA, which has more evidence supporting it. Why don’t you advertise it?
