I agree 100% that the 3060 8GB should have been the 3050 Ti

What I was really looking forward to was a direct comparison between RTX 3060 12GB vs RTX 4060, and did not hear enough about that, mostly 8GB v 12GB.

That is despite this being the first search result for RTX 3060 12GB v RTX 4060.

A lot of reviewers complained that 12GB was too much VRAM on the 3060. The problem is that when you cut down the VRAM to 8GB, you're also cutting the memory bus from 192 bit down to 128 bit. Oops.

Last year i upgraded from gtx 970 to rtx 3060. It was an amazing experience. No more worry about 3.5GB and 12 GB vram helps a lot in some games like RE 4 which consume 10gb vram in high setting.

Got a 3060 12gb for my wife from the newegg shuffle during the shortage. Price was not great at the time but it was a huge upgrade from using integrated graphics on a 2200g lol.

I bought the RTX 4060 mainly to play Cyberpunk, and it's great with RT, DLSS 3.5 & frame gen. Plus, it uses no more electricity than my previous card, the GTX 1060. Had I chosen the RX 6700 XT, I would have to upgrade my PSU as well...

bought a 4060 simply because its the latest release and hoping to get more mileage on it with driver updates and etc... the save on the power consumption is just a bonus extra that i got with getting this card... play battlefield 2042 and at ultra 1080p settings can get 80-110 fps... am going to try and play without ray tracing and see how much fps that gets me just out of curiosity... using a 60hz monitor... haven't upgraded it yet... my old one bought a few years ago and still very usable so not rushing to replace it yet...

Have the RTX 3060 12GB got lucky and got it for $300 from a friend during the mining crisis. Still can play all the games with it and it has decent Vram, in a combo with a Ryzen 7 5800x3D.

Thanks
Appreciate the info, as an owner of a 306012GB
Will never know what a 3060 Gddr6-X- would've been like. Thought they might've done a Super.
But you know, so much profits no need to.

Everyone trashes on the 4060... until YOU do benchmarks showing it's value.

I upgraded from a laptop 1050ti to a desktop 3060 12gb. It can't do advanced anti aliasing but other then that it's been great. I run 4k at 60fps most of the time but it also runs 144 fps on my ultra wide fine.

To think they tried to pull the same stunt with the 4080 12 and 16GB variants 😔

the 3060 8GB is a pretty great card, it's = to an rtx 2070, just runs at cooler temps. I'm running one, and a 2070, both on a 240hz 2560x1440 270hz panel, almost every e-sports game hits 240-270fps at native res with settings adjusted, 5600/5600x cpus.

3060 8GB is the biggest scam by Nvidia for the 30 series. It's worst than even the a 2060 Super and 3060 12GB variants. Should've slapped a 10GB model for the 4060 instead of 8GB while keeping the Ti at 16GB. I don't even know what's the point in these different VRAM points at the first place. At least AMD has a better naming and VRAM allocation.

!!Priceless, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Frankenstein!!

Its been an issue with Nvidia since forever, worst contenders are probably the GTX 1060 (there were I think 5 or 6 SKUs in total) and the GT 1030 DDR4 (literally cut down the performance in half compared to the GDDR5 version)

This reminds me of the nonsense from the 1060 3gb vs 6gb. Some kind of shady deliberate muddying of the waters around product lines.

I got an ASUS Dual RTX 4060 for £260 delivered on a pre Black Friday deal, and I'm actually pretty happy with it for my 1080p gaming. The power draw is super low too, especially if you bring DLSS into play. Of course more VRAM and and a higher bus width would have been better, but for the price I paid, it's not too bad at all. That 8GB 3060 should have never existed at all though. Less VRAM, lower bus width and less performance all round. An Nvidia con trick to then put the 3060 name on it.
