If you can call it a colony, I just got the game and started on the hardest difficulty with naked brutality and Robbie Random set to "Losing is fun". Started out with a one-armed cannibal who is a great shot but not great at much else. I got a somewhat sizable base set up in the boreal forest before he starved to death. I could not get him to pick berries for the life of me. He did, however, snap out of a daze once to rush half way across the map and eat a dead raccoon, then go immediately back into a daze.

Pro tip, if a trading caravan passes, and they have a slave. You can attack the slave (you loose a bit of relationship per hit), to lower their silver cost. The more you beat them the more their price drops.

- Just bought the game before watching this video
- Went through the tutorial
- tried to attack a pack of buffalos right after i completed the tutorial to get food

And that’s how i ended here

In my last colony (it died 1 hour ago) I actually had a strange event which is probably a part of the alpha animals thing. A person joined my ranks randomly, did work though not much, and ate a shit ton. It was kinda strange but I let it pass. Suddenly, right after I had cleared a large infestation, that person suddenly "died". It turned out that it was a insectoid called a Mime that took the form of a colonist to eat my food, though since the game suddenly thought I was out of food for some reason, it dropped the facade and went on the attack. It's kind of a strange event but one to keep in mind.

First colony, now that is a story. It involved slaughtering boomalopes in a wooden barn, meteors hitting my chemfuel next to my barracks while half of my pawns were down with the plague and every pawn trying to do everything and going nowhere. It was mercifully ended by a man-hunting Thrumbo herd, 3 rocket raiders and and infestation all at once. Then I started looking at guides.

My first colony involved building wood houses while my miners dug out a mountain side. When everything was smoothed over and nice I deconstructed the barracks.

Collapsing roof got all three of them.

a couple of thing we kinda overlooked:
- Temperature control is big one.
- Hydriponics and the ideal grow temp for food and drugs (specially drugs)
- the importance of Art. (cuz i know you're a man of culture)
- also teching people about NOT DIGGIN TO DEEP INTO A MOUNTAIN. a.k.a Overhead moutain tiles.
- also armor or better yet prostetics.

For the easiest start choose a temperate forest with hills and the "permanent summer" attribute as a starting tile

Pro tip, if you arrest a social fighting pawn, you can just draft the one arresting them and it'll immediately end their fight without imprisoning them

I highly recommend Phoebe on the lowest difficulty for a 2nd or 3rd playthrough.
Its literally a different game. More comparable to stardew.
Relax and farm and chill.

I just got this game. I underestimated the difficulty. Everyone died except the dog. It took me a few hours to realize the world is not just the map my base is on. This guide seems like it will help alot.

Pro tip! If you see a wild man and want to recruit them but you have no one with the skills for taming animals all you have to do is beat the crap out of them. Then when there down rescue them. For some odd reason they think highly of you saving them after you brutally beat them that they will either A.) Decide not to join and leave Or B.) Join because you were so Kind on saving there life from the danger that is yourself. Well we don't like answer (A) so we gonna keep beating them and rescuing them until they realize we are good people and eventually they actually will join. Be sure to use a club or wood because apparently your colonist will bite them and cause a infection in there torso and you have to waste medicine saving someone that is going to be making your colony more artistic. My longest attempt was 3 recuse missions, He may be a trauma savant now but damn the base started looking pretty.

Side note you cant reduce there resistance if there a prisoner because they are treated like animals. You can however throw them in a cell and wait for the slavers to come by to make some extra profit.

Just remember Boomalope explode when they die so if one gets old it can suffer from heart attacks and die then your base is fire along with your other animals

Randy is both the hardest and easiest Storyteller, it just depends on what he randomly does.

Some extra tips: the button to stop the home area to be set by the game is on the right side on the bottom of the screen (looks like an home) there is also another very useful one (looks like an hammer) that makes it so whenever something is destroyed ib the home area a blueprint is put in it's place so that your builder will rebuild it.
You can also youse the room stats one to se what is important for a room as some stats are bright white and some grey, the white ones are important, the grey ones not.

You just condensed a five hour tutorial into 23 minutes without taking a single breath or using any editing software, you Legend. Now what's the fire button and why cant I jump lol. Noobert this game better be worth the NASA level learning curve, Ive just got my head around Kenshi lol.

My first game, I went with Builder, Phobe Chillax, a diverse set of skilled pawns on a crash landed scenario, 2 tradeable villages nearby, no negative traits on my pawns, and a temperate forest. first 20 minutes, heat wave, my people couldn't go outside to do anything without starting to have heatstroke issues, and eventually anyone who went outside to collect food, was hospitalized with heatstroke, and my people ran out of food. I think my last pawn died at about minute 85. I was thinking. "hmm... That's not a good start"

From what i've seen, trying to explain a simplified version of Rimworld to someone who's never played before is almost impossible since everything in the game affects, causes or is caused by something else within the game leading to small rabbit holes throughout the whole explanation lmao.

Great video as usual, btw! <3

I usually spend most of my time creating scenarios for my play through, wasted 2-3 hours created and then scrapped everything to start again sadly ;-;
