This was like watching Bob Ross build a Magic deck. 10/10

Tip for deck builders when deciding your color: realize that each color has different attributes. White decks are typically defensive where creatures boost each other, but are weak alone. Green decks are balanced and have high Power and Toughness, but few tricks otherwise. Blue decks however thrive on trickery, usually with instants or sorceries, but have below average power and toughness. Red decks are very aggressive, focusing on attacking and dealing dmg, but fail at defending. Black decks often require some self-sacrifice to succeed, like sacrificing creatures, but can pack quite a punch when doing so.

With these in mind, understand you'll have trouble if you play a deck type you're not comfortable with. For example, I stray from Red and Black decks, because I like amassing armies and playing defensively. These guidelines aren't always true and but these are the standard theme. I suggest making your first deck dual colored, because despite being a bit harder to balance, it will feel more rewarding and whole. I found solo colored decks to be a bit of a bore, and generally stay away from them, unless I have a theme that requires it. (Such as my nightmare deck where cards get power for each swamp I have)

There are plenty of deck building guides online which can help you. I'd suggest 24 lands as a rule of thumb. And always, make sure you have low cost spells. I love my golem deck to death, but having 70% of the deck 4+ mana means I lose a lot with it when I can't get the ball rolling fast enough. I like to focus the bulk around 2-3 cost mana. it offers a good balance of strength and ease of play. But of course, add a few 1 cost and 5+

I'm using a black white deck right now, and it's very useful. I'm thinking of making a few new decks as well.

I know this is now an old video, but as a new Magic player, I’d like to say thank you for making this video. It really helped me a lot, deck building always confused me, but you laid it down in laymen’s terms. Thanks again, and keep up the great work!

Good call Boogie. When I put a deck together, I'll play a game or two against some friends to see how the deck runs. Just in case I want to switch out cards, I'll bring my cards with me, just in case I want to switch, or something doesn't work. That doesn't happen as much now, considering I've been playing for 20 years. Again, I enjoyed how you explained everything. Bring cards with you in case you want to fix up the deck is the only thing I suggest if you go someplace to play

Thanks Boogie. That helps a lot. I've just recently moved to a state I know no one in so I thought I would buy some cards and get back in to magic after 8 years. I am mostly doing this to meet some new like minded people at the gaming shop. Thanks again for everything you do for us. I wish I could play a few rounds with you

Thanks bud, really appreciate stuff like this; I've been playing magic on and off over the years, I've played with premade decks, but swayed more toward Poke-Yugioh over the years. This is the first time I've seriously put effort into building a deck.

Just literally like 3 days ago i wanted to start getting back into magic (havent played seriously in like 6 years or so) and broke out all my cards and tried to learn all the new rules sicne theres a local hobby shop that hosts games. If you could make this a whole series it would be AWESOME!

So many good times playing Magic. I was always using mono Black, my favorite were Zombie decks.
It'd be nice to get back into this game again.
