The Dirty Truth Behind 'Clean' Hydrogen

Documents obtained under freedom of information show the Victorian Hydrogen Energy Supply Chain (HESC) project, that uses brown coal to make hydrogen, is unlikely to meet its claimed emissions reductions of 1.8 million tonnes, and is more likely to increase emissions by up to 3.8 million tonnes, the equivalent to adding up to 735,000 cars to the road.

The documents come as polling from the Australia Institute shows 78 per cent of Australians don’t know or incorrectly define ‘clean hydrogen’. This confusion allows proponents of hydrogen made from fossil fuels, including the federal government, to use the label ‘clean hydrogen’ for high polluting projects.

While you could use hydrogen to power stuff.. but it will always be cheaper to use fossil fuel because pollution isn't priced in.. Green hydrogen is fighting the unavoidable losses to get from electricity to hydrogen and back again.. Madness according to laws of thermodynamics!

It does baffle me. And it comes back to education.
If people were educated at school to know the basics like The laws of thermodynamics and the complications that the process of making H creates, the lunacy of "clean hydrogen" would be clear.
There are actually political and industrial leaders, like scomo and Twiggy who believe in it!
I'd pay heaps if I could convert my V8 Landcruiser to electric! We go to great lengths to make our work sustainable, like converting our small plant to PV electricity but hydrogen would massively complicate our farming operations.

Hydrogen in cars is extremely inefficient Battery cars are much more efficient. Solar power can be used directly to BEVs putting the extra step of making green hydrogen increases the inefficiency to make it a backwards technology. Cost of refueling stations

Just use electrolysis and an electrolyte (water + baking soda) with a current of electricity running through it.
