Heading to New York & Not Sure What Your Hotel Accommodations Will Be Like? Well here we give you advice and tips on some of the typical hotels you will find in New York City.
1. They are expensive so plan accordingly. There are cheap tourist things to do in New York City, but the hotel is not one of them.
2. There are high taxes on hotel rooms which makes the rooms even more expensive.
3. The rooms are usually small, so you if you are a family make sure you let them know so you will have enough room.
4. WiFi is usually free, but breakfast is not. Many hotels do not offer breakfast, but there are a lot of options in NYC for breakfast so you will be fine.
5. You will always want to use the toilet before you leave the hotel as NYC public toilets are nasty.
6. You probably should tip the cleaning staff between $2 and $5 per day. We leave a little note for them as well.
7. There are high early check in fees, but most hotels will hold your luggage for free.

I recently stayed in an AirBnB rental in Queens for $60 a night. It was a very small apartment but just fine for me. The part of Queens was good.

It makes a lot of sense to stay outside Manhattan I think because the subway is very reasonably priced and when on holiday a thirty or forty minute trip is not a big problem. Actually one of the subway trains I rode on frequently had great views as it ran on an elevated line.

I've worked in the hotel industry in Manhattan for a couple years and it should be known that most housekeeping staff's are not actually making minimum wage. Most hotels in the city are unionized and so their wages are significantly higher than minimum wage. Just wanted to point that out.

Also, January is the least expensive time to stay in NYC. But it is cold so bundle up when going places.

I’ve been in a hotel room that was bigger in New York it all depends on where you go maybe try the other borough’s. Got a double bed room in L.I.C

Stay in a motel on Rt 46 in New Jersey. Take a New York Waterways ferry to NYC. Google it. NY Waterways has free buses from the dock. There is a parking lot for the ferry near the Lincoln Tunnel. Eat at a place on East Houston. The meals are big enough so you can skip a meal afterward. Also, try a papaya restaurant. Manhattan is a pain to drive in unless you are Jerry Seinfeld who can find a parking place anywhere.Make it a day trip by using a Chinatown bus to get there early in the morning and catch a Chinatown bus back late at night. Only $25 or less one way from Washington DC and they drop off in Manhattan.

When I'm in NY, we usually choose to stay either in a Long Island suburb, Upstate, Connecticut and sometimes NJ. It is cheaper and has better accommodations.

You can get a room for around 114 in Feb. at hotels like Hampton Inn. Book early and call the hotel direct after already getting prices from other hotels in the general area. They will beat your best price because they want your business at that time of year. Dress warm! Oh, and go to Thalia to eat and do yourself a favor an check out the Marriott Times Square for great interior architecture(go to the 12th floor).

I visited the Saint Regis hotel, on a Sunday morning, and noticed that the Sunday brunch was a cool 80 dollars.

Great video. I go to NY in 2 weeks and I booked the Westin for 180 USD tax included. Best deal for booking in advance!

The tap water in NYC is excellent - that's why the bagels & pizza crust are so good. Airbnb & vacation rentals are ILLEGAL in NYC in buildings with more than 2 units (which is almost everywhere) & for less than 30 days. Don't do it, you may arrive to find your host has been evicted or shut down by the city for illegal Airbnb/rental activity & you'll have to pay last minute hotel prices.

There used to be some nice, small hotels in lower Manhattan. Sadly, they were forced to convert to 30 day minimum stay places . The legislation designed to eliminate AirBNB rentals is what, I believe, forced them to change.
