Do tourists really complain about having to walk in nyc? That is actually maddening. The crown jewel of NYC is its walk-ability.

That tip on shoes is spot on. I visited Manhattan in 2018 and my old worn down very loosely fitting sneakers with me. Had at least 6 blisters on each foot by the end of the day. Also if you're not simply used to walking a lot i recommend you literally start taking walks daily 5-6 weeks before your trip. Living extremely sedentary lifestyle and then all of sudden you walk and stay on your feet the whole day will wreck your feet no matter how good of a shoe pair you got.

OMNY is probably the best thing to happen to the NY Subway, especially for tourists. It's so handy and takes the confusion away from using the ticket machines which also attracts dubious folk trying to "help" you use it.

The Staten Island Ferry is another nice 25 minute cruise between Staten Island and Manhattan (at the base of Battery Park). It runs every 20 minutes during rush hour (6am-9am) and (4pm-8pm). It's every half hour other times. Best of all? You can get great pics of the Statue of Liberty and is free. It runs 24 hours.

Visited NYC for the first time a month ago and prepped by watching a lot of your videos, thank you! I actually chuckled when you got to 25! Coming from Halifax most people wait for the crosswalk to change to cross the street. It didn't take us long just start crossing at the first opportunity. We will be back!

Another great suggestion: ALWAYS carry earplugs.

If it's not a chorus of jackhammers, it's traffic noise, or subway brakes or unwanted buskers who've entrapped you in a crowded car.

They can take the edge off for people who get overstimulated very easily. It actually allows you to enjoy the time as your brain can focus much easier.
