This was one of my Dad’s favorite movies. I will forever think of him when I see it and hear the beautiful music score.

My mother was a concert pianist and loved this movie and its score. She could play anything by ear and used to play this a lot. I can’t hear it without thinking of her. I miss you every day Mom ❤️

The shot of their reflections in the window is a brilliant reveal of her presence. Great filmmaking there.

This movie isn't really fiction, bc this love really does exist. It does a wonderful job of showing what real, true, pure love is like, how it doesnt change at all in wonder, passion or tenderness as we age, but is forever the same in two hearts. This is a real picture of the love shared between people who've been together 50 years, & still cling to each others hands & refuse to be apart from each other. It shows the heartache & longing as well, when something parts them, whether it's illness, like Alzheimers, or death. The emptiness & hopelessness, that makes the one left, follow them soon after.
I suspect the writer of this story knew more than a little of this kind of couple, from their youth til their life together was done.

Thank You So Much for posting this. This is my favorite film of all time. This is the only film where I cry every time I see it. This film is the only movie where I cry not tears of joy, not of sadness, and not of sorrow. But of something only God can explain. I hope and wish that I could share this experience with a Somewhere in Time of mine. Hopefully when I find her she'll hold my hand as Elise and Richard did👫 May God Bless You and your family 🙏 ❤️⌚

This movie belongs to a type of movie that was no longer being made by 1980. It reminds me of "Berkeley Square" (1933) and it's remake "I'll Never Forget You" (1951) and "Random Harvest" (1942). They all deal with a life and a love from the past which the protagonist loses and tries to recapture. They all treat romantic love with a restraint that makes the romance more poignant. There is also a complete absence of irony and self mocking wisecracks (isn't this corny?) that script writers sometimes can't help themselves from slipping in. There are two major influencers in this movie; jack Finney's novel "Time And Again" (time travel via self hypnosis) and the Victorian era actress Maude Adams, who's photograph inspired an obsession in the mind of author Richard Matheson.

You know I think your right! It is the best scene. At first I thought nahhh I can think of much better scenes in the movie. However this is the most poignant. Theres so much in both their eyes and when she looks up and sees him? Wow. I wonder how many takes they did of this particular scene? I remember when I first saw this on HBO when it FIRST CAME OUT.... yep Im THAT OLD! Im 58 and saw it in 81 I believe so that would make me 18 or so I guess? Yep cable had just come out not long before and everyone was in heaven cause before that we had 3 channels and there was no such thing as a remote. You got your ass up and walked it over to that big box with legs sitting on the floor! Its amazing how much Ive lived to see and Im so grateful for that. ANYWAY when I saw this scene for the first time and she said "Is it you?" I bout came out of my chair. I think it surprised Richard Collier too! Lol It was like she was expecting him but she couldnt have been because 1912 was when they first met. Then she explained that Robinson told her a man would come to change her life, etc. This movie was precious to me for another reason too for me in 1981. I had met the man I thought I would marry when I graduated from college. We were soooo in love and that movie spoke to us both in such a personal way. We were in that oooey, gooey kinda love where every love song is written just for the two of you, every romantic movie was about you both. We would sit out in his car after he brought me home from dates and cuddle up, stare into each others eyes and tell each other "Ive never loved anyone the way I love you...and never will"...of COURSE I hadnt! I was only 18(met him when I was 16)how could I have had TIME to love anyone else? :) but we were absolutely convinced nobody would ever know a love like ours. "After college" turned out to be too long I suppose. I ended up breaking his heart and Ive regretted it ever since. Never go off to college as part of a couple. It never lasts. I went to an all girls college & STILL managed to fall in love with someone else! No not another girl just a man I met while out shopping one day. BTW that all girls college? Its been coed now for a number of years. Some guy came along and made a court case out of it because it was known as having the best nursing school in the state and he said why should he be deprived of the best education because of his sex. He was right and he won. Heres my experience talking to all you young people out there....those relationships you are in going into college are practically doomed to fail. We do so much changing and growing during those years. So do yourself AND your boy/girlfriend a favor and set them free going into college. Let them grow and learn too with nothing to hold them back. That old saying about "If you love something set it free. If it comes back to you its yours, if it doesnt it NEVER WAS". Ive yet to hear one of those 'old sayings' as true as this one. Okay, granny will get off her soap box now. What is it about growing old that makes us feel compelled to pass on all our big wisdom whether someone wants to hear it or not? What is it about the YOUNG that insist on shrugging us off like a relic from the past while motoring hell bent right off the edge of a cliff? Just one lifes great mysteries I guess;)

The gross increase in ads is making me watch less YT and it's sure keeping me from the products that advertise here.

Without context the guy looks so stupid.
But I guess that's what actually happens when you're in love.
