Such a well deserved number 1 song! His voice sounds so haunting and you can just hear and feel all of his emotions. The original is amazing but Johnny Cash took it to a whole new level!

I always thought the video David Fincher directed for Madonna’s “Oh, Father” is pretty haunting and beautiful in a quiet cinematic way. David Fincher was emerging as a music video force before he hit big in feature films and his early collabs with Madonna showed his strong innovative style.

Excellent list of haunting music - in a good way. I adore Coldplay - The Scientist. Johnny Cash’s cover of Hurt was so intensely beautiful that Trent Reznor said He (Cash) OWNS that song.
Bowie’s Lazarus is almost too painful for me to watch because he is one of two of my all time musical acts of all time

Johnny Cash's version of Hurt was even better than the original version, in my opinion. He died not long after recording and filming, introducing him to a whole new generation.

Madonna's video for "Oh Father" is so beautiful. It haunts me now since my own father has passed.

The theme of this Top 10: emotionally resonant videos that leave a huge mark. My Honorable Mention recommendation is "Untitled" by Simple Plan.

I grew up when the consequences of drinking and driving was at the forefront of conversations in school and within families.

The video features a teenage girl driving alone - singing and smiling - when she is hit by a drunk driver. The video also has break-in clips of her family doing normal things: Mom is washing dishes and brother is playing video games. At the moment she is hit by the drunk driver, each of her family members is ripped into different directions - her father even flies through the window.

It is meant to reflect that when a loved one is hurt (or killed) in a car accident, the whole family's "normal" is impacted and they are never the same again.

I cannot watch that video without crying and it has stayed with me since watching it for the first time.

The video for the Song Happier is basically the plot for Marley And Me

Johnny Cash Hurt is the one. Trent Razner wrote that as a struggling young man. Johnny sang that as a man at the end of his life. They are two different views but the same lyrics. Both hit different. But hands down, Johnny Cash Hurt is the greatest cover song ever. Mazzy Star Into Dust could be on this list, but I don't think they ever made a video for it. If they have, I couldn't find it

What about Tears in Heaven by Eric Clapton? Written about the tragic death of his son.

Peter Gabriel has two great haunting videos that come to mind. One is for his song, "Father Son", which as you can imagine from the title, is a song about him and his father, and the video for it has beautiful home footage of the two of them together. The second video is for his song "Don't Give Up, " where he and his duet partner, Kate Bush, hug each other throughout the whole video due to that song's themes about not giving up in desperate times.

The most beautiful video ever made in terms of visual art is Fleetwood Mac's "Gypsy." It combines Art Nouveau and Art Deco. It is simply stunning artistically.

Concerning “Beautiful” by Aguilera: and then she redid it, and it was just as good!

Little Motel by Modest Mouse never fails to make me cry. The lyrics and music video are so chilling, especially as a parent now

“Show Me the Meaning Of Being Lonely” by Backstreet Boys
Music video shows grief and loss. If you know the story behind each scene it’s even more depressing
