Johnny cash's version of hurt is one of the most painful songs to listen to. When his daughter heard it it's said that she said to him it sounded like he was saying goodbye and he replied that he was. Trent Reznor even was quoted saying "It's not my song anymore" after he heard the song.

"Who Wants to Live Forever" is not just one of Queen's most moving songs, it's also one of the most underrated, along with "Heaven for Everyone", which always brings me to tears.

I was half-expecting "Father and Son" by Cat Stevens to be number one. That song is one of the most beautiful and haunting songs and it makes me tear up every time

Tears in Heaven definitely in the right place at number one. I remember when it was released how sad I was for Eric Clapton. Since then I've played it at my darling Mum's funeral.

"Wish You Were Here" by Pink Floyd was the first song I heard right after my father died. We were estranged nearly 20 years and just started to get to know each other when he was diagnosed with cancer and died three months later. It's like fate decided we just simply weren't meant to know each other.

Michael Jackson's "Will You Be There, Man in the Mirror and You Are Not Alone" are deeply moving and will get anyone crying. And Sia's Rainbow. Very beautiful.

Elvis's Unchained Melody live recording is an immediate tear burst for me. The voice, the passion, the musical perfection, and his tragedy lurking in the shadows... An incredible moment in music history.

Personally the only song that makes me cry is Bryan Adams "Everything I do I do it for you", reason being is that was the main theme for Robin Hood and my Dad took me to see it in the theaters. The next day my Dad died, so my last memory of him was that movie and song so I always tear up anytime I hear it.

What makes these songs so sad is our own story. Our suffering

As a Highlander fan, I submit "Who Wants to Live Forever?" by Queen. That song playing as an old Heather dies in immortal Connor MacLeods arms always stirs me to tears. "In the years to come, will you light a candle for me on my birthday? Aye love, I will" Gets me every time.
