PS5 Pro - Price is not the only problem

The Playstation 5 Pro has been revealed and it's.... interesting.

At a cost of £700 for a mid-gen upgrade, Sony really are pushing the boundaries and narrowing the gap between console and PC gaming. But what does £700 (or €800!) get you? Well, it doesn't get you a stand or a disc drive, you'll need to add another £130 for those. But it does get you a 2TB SSD and some more frames per second in graphics (or fidelity) mode.

How does the PS5 Pro compare to the original PS5? Is the PS5 Pro good value for money? How have Sony justified the near 2x cost of its new console? To be honest, I don't think Sony did a very good job AT ALL at explaining any of that.

This reaction to the PS5 Pro reveal looks at what's being offered and how it compares to previous generation consoles. Sony have shown their hand, it's time for Microsoft and XBox to show us theirs!

699 in the US should not be 699 in the UK. It should be 532. 699 in sterling is 917 USD. It's the highest price in the world for a PS5 pro... Also, the disk drive is 89.99 dollars. That's 68 pounds. The UK are getting ripped off.

People say the PS3 is more expensive when adjusted for inflation but those people forget the disc drive came WITH that price, not for £100+ extra. Which makes the PS5 Pro the most expensive PlayStation ever, not the PS3.

I am in Ireland and I am NOT willing to pay almost €1000 for a gaming console that isnt a pc. €800 for console plus 100 for disc drive plus 50 for the stand. Christ knows what the enhanced games will cost!

One thing I'd say... "the biggest mid generation upgrade of all time"... how many mid generation upgrades have there been? And to be clear - I also don't believe this is a great product from Sony (based only on the presentation that they have provided). Playing Devil's advocate - XBox are releasing a XBsX with 2TB at USD599. While losing the disc drive (which I hate), they are gaining a significant computational capability. The value will be in what it can actually do to translate the capability to gaming.

The PS5 Pro CPU is the same as PS5 with a 10% boost if needed which could cause a bottleneck on CPU intensive games causing FPS drops. Unless PSSR has some sort of magical tech GTA 6 could be 30 FPS on the pro.
