Always think outside the box when trying new schemes! Starting with a metallic undercoat when painting Warhammer miniatures may sound crazy but it works! It's also really fun to paint minis this way too. This Salamander space marine, for example, takes a lot of the yellow tones from the gold so when we are done painting the green is bright and has a very subtle shine. This paint scheme combines lots of different painting methods - slapchop, underpainting, highlighting, shdaing - to name just a few. If you'd like to learn how to paint miniatures in a more fun and efficient way why not subscribe to my channel? You'll then be the first to know when I upload new content :)

Warhammer painting tutorials be like: “how to paint lizard green. Step 1: *Gold*”

1) Paint gold entirely.
2) Paint over with green until gold is no longer visible.

I love this concept. I wonder how it would look if you intentionally spread some of the paint too thin over the top coat to give it a worn dowj feeling and have them feel weary and worn with a more stylised armour style

I love how you can undercoat a mini with pretty much anything, and it will look great. It will look slightly different depending on what you use, but pretty much every option looks better than a black and white undercoat.

Totally stole the blue highlights on the black for my salamanders looks very clean nice work! I use a base of white scar and black Templar contrast for the black to give it a faded look, then thunder hawk blue highlights brings it together nice work man!

I absolutely love the outcome, this looks like an awesome technique to get a full army painted to a great standard. Do you think it would work on bigger areas like on a vehicle or dreadnought too? Maybe an idea for a future video? 😂

What’s your process for painting? How do you figure out the order of the layers?

Besides going bright on the highlights, I would think Dark Angels before i ever thought oh those are Salamanders.
