I've played cricket in the US, Fort Lauderdale CC. We were mostly West Indies, Aussies, Kiwis and Indians/Pakistanis. It was quite fun seeing the tourists watching us play and scratching their heads about this new game.

The first point definitely felt satirical and funny.

That’s a weird list. I think it’s a bit more satirical than serious. Just for reference, out of the top 20 venomous snakes in the world, we have 19 here. It’s all about knowing what to do if you see one, and more importantly, what not to do.

As soon as it said snakes, I started giggling.

I enjoyed this video Joel. Definitely a bit tongue in cheek. Mining and mineral resources was fascinating. We're gearing up here for lithium battery production as well. So, I can only imagine what Australia is doing with it - gangbusters I suspect! Cheers, John in Canada

This reminded me of the bit in Life of Brian, "What did the Romans ever do for us?". The part about cities was getting dangerously close to being a sensible point but they went into zero detail about that in case it was too convincing.

G'day JPS,
Just wondering if this was an April 1 video ??? as with the Snakes & Cricket it does seem like a tongue in cheek April Fools
My heart goes out for all the Americans who do fear for their life everyday & those who have suffered those tragic losses, especialy the families of the children like those who lost their lives at the start of the week in Nashville.

Love you show! For a long time now I have been asking you to have a look at Bush Mechanics. You will be amazed by these tribal indigenous men who repair their cars at no cost to them. A must watch. Fantastic!

That was a woeful effort!

1) Gun control. We had a fairly successful gun buy back scheme after the Port Arthur shooting in 1996. There has only been 2 or 3 mass shootings since
2) Health care. Hospital care is free to Australian citizens.
3) Wages and working conditions. Waiters etc. don't need tips to survive. We have sick leave and usually 4 weeks annual leave per year.
4) Border control. The organised people smugglers were stopped years ago.
5) Coffee. Thanks to all those Italian and other European immigrants after WWII.

I was watching a video about the top 15 cities in the world in terms of murder rate and I think St Louis has snuck into the top 10 over the last few years. It was actually worse than anywhere in South Africa. It was weird to see it sitting amongst a list of third world places where you would guess it would be a problem. It is such a weird thing that America seems to have just accepted as a way of life in a lot of places like Chicago and Detroit too. St Louis intrigues me though, as it would seem to still have an economy, fooball team etc. but I have no idea how. If I was an employable, upstanding citizen, I'd be getting the hell out of that place pronto.

Shopping is better too. From what I understand in the US what the shelf price states is not what you pay at the checkout. You add some tax and it's different from state to state. in Australia the tax (GST) is in the shelf price so it's identical when you scan It at the checkout. I feel trying to budget and know how much say your shopping would cost is more complicated than it needs to be. If I am wrong please correct me 😊

Funnily enough although we have so many of the most deadly snakes, Australia has one of the lowest death rates from snake bite. Most of our snakes are shy and tend to slither away if they hear you coming, just don’t get between them and their hiding place. They aren’t heat sensing, they don’t detect their prey by its body heat, so if you just stand perfectly still you’re usually safe. We have the only commercially available venom detection kits in the world to determine which species of snake did the biting, which means the antivenin can be matched to the snake more easily and quickly and so more effectively. We have high quality antivenins at most hospitals, free medical care and the Royal Flying Doctor Service if you are bitten in a remote area. There’s only one or two snake deaths per year in the whole country.
