Can Christians Lose Their Salvation? (Yes, and here's why)

Trent Horn answers the question most often debated by Protestants and Catholics: Can Christians lose their salvation? Although the belief that Christians can lose their salvation was held for the first 1500 years of the Church's history, many non-Catholics challenge this idea. Trent Horn explains the difference between losing salvation and never being saved in God's eyes.

If we as humans have the capacity to betray each other, why wouldn't we able to betray God and reject His grace?

I’m a reformed Baptist and personally I’m on the side of eternal security, but I’ve been studying God’s Word and doing my research to see what the other side has to say! And not only this subject, but also just the Catholic faith in general. This was a different perspective, thank you, and God bless! I noticed the guy they had talk on this subject was the same guy that James White debated, seems like a very smart guy.

Great video, sad to see Catholic Answers Forums no longer exist, was a great place to further debate.

If marriage is a picture of the relationship between Christ and his church it seems odd to me that, in the view of Rome, a valid marriage cannot be dissolved, but a true incorporation into the Body and Bride of Christ can.

Now, I am not saying that the warnings of falling away are not there for good reason. That those who stand should take heed, lest they fall, is wise in every aspect of life and we are to work out our salvation in fear and trembling.

But when Trent quotes Protestants who claim that those who walk away from the faith were never truly saved, that is exactly what Catholics say about annulments (i.e. that the marriage was simply never valid in the first place). That has always struck me as odd.

The same who says, "They went out from us, but they did not really belong to us. For if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us; but their going showed that none of them belonged to us." Also says, "As for you, see that what you have heard from the beginning (i.e. the Gospel) remains in you. If it does, you also will remain in the Son and in the Father. And this is what he promised us—eternal life." 1 John 2

I am liking the new thumbnail style! And I agree that we can definitely lose our salvation. I fear this and that’s why it’s so important for me to stay close to the sacraments: confession and communion. I need to receive Jesus and I need His grace to help me avoid temptation of sin.

Funny how there is so much debate on this, and everyone is convinced they've got it right.

*"And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption."* (Ephesians 4:30)

Brother, this verse right here is straight outta the word of God. The day of redemption is the second coming of Jesus where the believers are resurrected and made whole with their new, glorified bodies. That is the end goal/the point of the "good fight" or the "race" as Paul refers to it. The Holy Spirit is given to believers upon believing (Ephesians 1:13). Now, if you think you can break the seal of the Holy Spirit, I don't know what to tell you.

As far as people that "were saved" but fell away:

"They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us." (1 John 2:19)

The position for Calvinist that hold to baptismal regeneration seems to be super conflicting. If a baptized regenerate believer falls away which happens then it destroys their erroneous position, & as Trent Horn mentions which obliterates osas is per Saint Paul, w/ ones faith being ship wrecked...amongst countless other texts

I feel lost and don’t fully understand how I can avoid hell….it says God has mercy on who he wants to….so does anything I do matter? I believe with all my heart for real it’s so real to me, but I’m practicing sin willingly even though I don’t want to do it and know it’s wrong and feel like God has forsaken me because he won’t bother with someone who he knows is going to hell anyways….I don’t get why no matter how much I pray or beg or cry out he doesn’t want to intervene like he does in other believers lives. I’m so hopeless and fear judgement and hell every day😢

To anyone reading this. I do have a genuine question and all answers are welcome. I do believe that salvation can be lost by apostate, but does that mean that if I commit a sin at all, will I lose my salvation? Or is my loss in salvation just the rejection of God's grace and leaving Jesus in the dust after accepting Christ as savior?

Do you steel have it?
How do we keep it?
The problem of thinking that we can lose salvation it stands in the fact that we think we have the power to gain it in the first place.
If that doctrine of losing salvation is true theres no hope gain it back has it says in the book of Hebrews 6:4("impossible to bring on to repentance those who....")

I think the issue here is that people have different definitions for "losing your salvation". What Trent describes as losing salvation sounds like walking away from it to me. Losing salvation implies that it's gone for good for a lot of people, which isn't so.

If you can't lose your salvation prior to death, either you have become incapable of sin or God no longer cares whether you sin or not. Both of these heresies have their adherents among contemporary Protestants.

Ephesians 5:30 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.

Psalm 34:20 He keepeth all his bones: not one of them is broken.

If the King James Bible is right, in which no one has been able to disprove it, then it is impossible for a Christian to lose salvation because Jesus Christ doesn’t dismember himself and there’s no sin strong enough to separate a Christian from His body. Furthermore, God keeps His Born Again saved.

1 Peter 1:4-5
4 To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,

5 Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

John 8:10. When Jesus asked the adultress where are her accusers to condemn her? She says there was no one there, Lord (believer). Then neither will I condemn you. Go and sin 'no more'.

Why would Jesus make that statement? What if she went right back to commiting adultery, a mortal sin? Are you telling me her unrepentent heart is saved?

We are all sinners and Jesus grace and salvation thru his blood means we are saved, but we have to strive to be sinless and when we recognize we have sinned, repent and reconcile ourselves. He will forgive all sins.

Gods grace is sufficient for us. It is He who took initiation because we cant as fallen being. Nothing in this world can separate us from Him. Accepting christ as lord and savior means denying oneself and following him. Not simply believing and making confession because emotionally drifted. Demons also believes in Jesus as Christ. Most drifted away never accepted him as Lord and savior which is following him. He demanded people to repent/ turn around from their wickedness and follow him. Thats why it seems many people are losing salvation. Never underestimate the power of Gods grace.

There is on 1 sin that God will not forgive and that us not it.
Mark 3:21-29
[21]And when his friends heard of it, they went out to lay hold on him: for they said, He is beside himself.
[22]And the scribes which came down from Jerusalem said, He hath Beelzebub, and by the prince of the devils casteth he out devils.
[23]And he called them unto him, and said unto them in parables, How can Satan cast out Satan?
[24]And if a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.
[25]And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand.
[26]And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
[27]No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strong man; and then he will spoil his house.
[28]Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme:
[29]But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation:
HERES THE PART WHERE IT IS UNFORGIVABLE⬇️
Mark 3:30
[30]Because they said, He hath an unclean spirit.
Jesus Christ is not on earth now so we can't do that sin.
God is omnipotent, he cannot fail. If you could lose salvation it would disgrace Jesus Christ, and The Father would never allow that. Repent and turn to the Father.
