If i remember correctly, those exact soldiers were sent home or to fight elsewhere because they wouldnt kill each other after the truce

the old guys start the war, the young ones have to fight it. So the younger ones die first and the older ones live longer.

My family tells/remembers this every year. The Germans were singing "Stille Nacht" or Silent Night, which had many cognates and identical syllable layouts. The British recognized it, and started signing along from the other side. Once they heard this, the Germans set up their trees directly violating their commanders' orders not to reveal their trench.

Another story is of the singing Russian soldier
There was this Russian soldier who had an angelic voice. He would sing when the front lines were chill. He would keep the Russian morale up so much the Russians wouldn’t let him fight because they were afraid he might get hurt. During winter, the Russians would give him their clothes, so he wouldnt get sick and coult continue singing. Then one night he got sick. And a German soldier crawled across no man’s land, and threw a grenade. All the soldiers immediately took cover. Like 3 even went to shield the singer. When the grenade didn’t detonate for a while, the Russians checked it out, but it turns out it was not a grenade. It was a rock attached with a note written in weird russian asking about the singing soldier, and if he needed any medicine, just to ask the Germans. War is between countries, not soldiers.

It's amazing how wars will stop for a day or two just because of a global holiday is being celebrated.

None of them wanted to fight, but the government forced them to.

It's also important to note that most soldiers weren't actually trying to kill the other soldier. The majority just wanted to go home in one piece and would only shoot to kill if they absolutely had to.

Tonight we're all friends
A moment of peace in a war that never ends
Today we're all brothers
We drink and unite
Now Christmas has arrived and the snow turns the ground white"

A remember reading a chapter on it on 6th or 7th and found it fascinating ever since
The writer found this envelope from a drawer of one of the soldiers and the soldier never returned but his wife was waiting for him so the writer comforted her

I think of it as a tragedy because it proves that the only thing making us fight is that ‘we were already fighting’

We learned a story about this called "The Best Christmas Present In The World" by Michael Morpurgo in English. Such a heartwarming event and story. I recommend y'all to read it:)

Wars are disagreements between old men who sit in chairs all day who couldn’t get along. They sign papers and that’s it. Soldiers die for causes they had nothing to do with. End drafting

I’ve known about this, since I was little, and as I get older I find it more and more wholesome and wonderful

This shows that even during war, enemies can turn to friends. But can always turn on you.
