Sainsbury’s Christmas advert, 1914. Made in partnership with The Royal British Legion. Inspired by real events from 100 years ago.

This year’s Christmas ad from Sainsbury’s – Christmas is for sharing. Made in partnership with The Royal British Legion, it commemorates the extraordinary events of Christmas Day, 1914, when the guns fell silent and two armies met in no-man’s land, sharing gifts – and even playing football together.

The chocolate bar featured in the ad is on sale now at Sainsbury’s. All profits (50p per bar) will go to The Royal British Legion and will benefit our armed forces and their families, past and present.

The chocolate bar is available while stocks last. Subject to availability. Excludes online.

You know an advert does its job, when people watch it 6 years later purely because it's so good.

The real story is that a single german came up first, Not the British. After they had to go back to their trenches, in which they did not want to fight. The final decision was made and they were then replaced.

It's pretty sad that the Politicians wanted to make them fight whereas the war could've possibly ended then and there.

Edit: Almost the 1 year anniversary since I wrote this comment, Happy Christmas.

9 years later I still come back to this every year. It’s unbeatable. Never fails to make me cry - such a beautiful but heartbreaking advert. I know it’s a little early to say, but Merry Christmas everyone ❤ peace, happiness and love to all x

My 9th grade history teacher showed us this commercial to give us an idea of what happened on Christmas during WW1. Came back to it bc it's so good

I read a book about this. They were devastated when they had to go back to war, for they remembered how beautiful life was.
Love, people. It's what Christmas is meant for.

I think the British Army & the German Army should meet up in 2024, Singing "Silent Night" on 110th Anniversary of this event.

Watching this again at 1:30am on the 25th and its heartwarming to realise one of the worst conflicts in history was still able to come to peace and happiness on Christmas day for the time it lasted for these men

I’d have no objection to Sainsbury’s just reusing this advert every year

We are all here 6 years later, it’s timeless
