I've been living with cluster headaches for 11 years. I found that going for a run during a cluster headache has helped them go away A LOT quicker. I think the heavy blood flow and intense oxygen flow from running helps immensely. I even go for a run when they wake me up at 2:30 in morning. I figured, that i'd rather suffer through a 10 min run than suffer from a 1 hr cluster headache. Running is the last thing you feel like doing during a cluster, but it's Definitely worth

I can't imagine how someone who is qualified in this area, could ever mistake a migraine for a cluster attack. It's simple. If the pain is on one side, and the eyeball on that side is bloodshot red and tearing from the intense pain on the nerve, and the other side/eye is unaffected, it has to be cluster.
The patient really knows the pain of CH, he will know it's CH.
There is NO mistaking it once you have had it. Even ONCE.

I just found out that this is a real thing. I thought there was just something wrong with me everytime my headache starts. And I have been called "best actress" many times thinking i'm faking it and just wanted a drama. But no, it hurts a lot. Plus the negativity they throw in me for not believing I was suffering. It hurts. A lot.

@dunskie There is also a type of headache called an ice pick headache. Similiar symptoms to cluster headaches, but not classified as a cluster headache.

I suffer from Acute Cluster Headaches, thank God the VA suggested oxygen therapy, 8 liters for 10 minutes. I suffered for 2 years before Dr. Stanley found out what my problem was, her director is using me as part of a study group.

@dunskie I thought his point was that the patient has all the symptoms of a cluster headache but that they dont seem to happen in a 'cluster'. He actually described my symptoms very well. 90% of my headaches are migraine, but there is a random 10% that have all of the symptoms of a cluster headache, including the SIGNIFICANT increase in pain. He is also right, my cluster pain can last for hours. I have had it up to 8 hours before on one of the thankfully rare times my Imitrex doesnt help.

I've had cluster headaches since 8.... They don't always go away and an hour or two ... I've ha one for 2 weeks .... The only thing that makes mine go away is sleep. ... It's always been in my right It's the worst thing ever. Imitrex and treximet do absolutely nothing for mine... Even if I take it in the beginning. They go from 5 to 5000 in about an hour, and typically last the whole day. I know everyone is different but what I have does not fit the typical framing if the usual cluster. I've been through ct scans everything specialist always with the same Cluster headaches

I have had maybe 15 days since last october without a cluster headache, without the imitrex
I would have killed myself by now! it takes about 1/2 hour to start working!

vrosas33, this is often the case, you need to get your doctor to refer you to a neurologist. What works for one person doesn't necessarily work for the next person.

@gearsgamer1 absolutely first thing is to make an appointment with your doctor, because headaches can have so many causes.

Until the appointment, keep a diary so you can tell the doctor what the headaches have been like: how often are they, and at what time of day; how long they last; whether they fade in/out or are sudden; what you were doing when they came on; where they were in your head; what they felt like; if they moved around. The more info the better.

Good luck, from a CH sufferer.

@smj62, I am so sorry but i do not agree with you, if you treat the cause of cluster Headaches the same treatment will go for all. the problem is the doctors are not looking for the cause. i was a cluster headaches patient and found the cause.that is why i do not get headaches at all

Instead of CH I propose the term should be Trigeminal Nerve Attack Syndrome (TNAS) which much better describes the condition. What's in a name? The difference between "oh I get those all the time - just take some asperin" and "Wow that's really serious".
